Mamak Restaurant Photo

Photographer’s Note

In Malaysia everybody talks about Mamak restaurant, what generally means an Indian-Malay Muslim or Mamak 24 hour restaurant. This one here in the center of Alor Star is a Mamak restaurant, but it is only open from 7 a.m. to 11 pm. It's standard really is higher then in other Mamak 24 hour restaurant, because all curries are freshly cooked each morning. It uses much less MSG, sugar and oil or ghee, consequently it is more healthy cooked. No wonder this restaurant is among our favorite when it comes to Indian style curry and dishes.

Hello Urs,

Your succinct but useful note informs he photograph very well. The photo depicts a slice of life in Malaysia's Kedah. I've visited Johor Bahru and Kuala Lumpur, and I am curious about life in the other states of Malaysia.

I think that is not restourant. A cafe, bistro etc, but not restourant, I think. Fine shot!Good colours and interesting details.

I like the subject of the photograph ...
I like your approach to it, but there are too many things on this picture, I think.
I made a workshop to the picture (by the use of PSCS3), with a different cut. I added DOF to it too.
Maybe my vision of your picture will be useful and interesting for you.

Mmmmmmmmm,my mouth is watering. So many different dishes, such delicacy: curry. Such care from this man. Great detail and color. Yum! Judy

Hi Urs,
Indeed nice to see such a well kept stall and you crop this well. I like the good lighting control and the colours are lovely. A better play with DOF would probably helped to prevent my eyes from wandering around too much. All the same a mouth watering shot!!
