Howth Lighthouse Photo

Photographer’s Note

Hi there,

Two days ago I have spend about 3 hours around this Lighthouse, because the sky was just incredible. You can see what the sunset was like anyway. The picture presents the lighthouse of Howth just few minutes before heavy rain. What happend after that? I was completely wet. Even my pants :))

You would have known by now, that Howth is one of my favourite places around Dublin. I tried to dug out some info about Howth itself, and below are few bits I was able to find:

Howth began as a Viking settlement. When a harbour was constructed in the early 19th century the town became the main packet station in Dublin. The Howth road was built soon afterwards to connect Howth with the city. The town's status during this century was marked by a visit from King George IV in 1821. His footprints are still visible at the end of the West Pier. However, Howth's harbour began to silt up and Dun Laoghaire took over in the mid-19th century as the most important harbour. In 1914, a ship called the Asgard, owned by Erskine Childers, arrived into Howth with a cargo of 900 rifles and 25,000 rounds of ammunition to arm the nationalist uprising.

The lighthouse you can see on the picture is on North Shore. It was built in 1818 but decommissioned in 1982.

Magnificent photo, the depiction is magnificent by sound slept by the sun and the centring which you chose.

Czesc Darku,
no opad szczeny w rzeczy samej.
Widok po prostu nieprawdziwy. Moze warto bylo zmoczyc majtki dla tego zdjecia...
Swietnie tez zaplanowales kompozycje: sam zachod bylby boski ale mogl byc troche nudny a przez to ze wlaczyles sporo elementow architektury -wszystko jest ciekawe. Pieknie zreszta detalicznie widac teksture betonu, nawet barierka jest swietna dodaje ciekawy ksztalt.
No i oczywiscie niebo jest boskie.
Gratulacje. Zdjecie najwyzszej klasy.

Just before I wrote a critique. "...If I were you I would spend 2-3 hours there to catch more artistic pictures..." and ın your note you wrote " I have spend about 3 hours around this Lighthouse, " this is necessary to catch best time.. then you catch a wonderful sky and a romantic shoot...

A fine sunset photo from a daring low point of view which gives a special perspective with great detail of the quay and the lighthouse. Fine shadow colours contrasting with the beautifuyl sunset.

that's a nice one! The colors of the fading sunset stand out against the otherwise overcast sky. And the lighthous is jsut the perfect element to fill the frame. Good job, man. By the way, this looks like it has been taken with a wide-angle lens. Was it the casr? Because I can't see your Exifs data...

I like the way you captured this very dark and impressive sky, while the yellow colour of the light creates golden reflection over the sea.

Śliczny sansecik, ładnie śawiatełko odbija sie w kamieniach. Ciekawy nastrój. Niebo rzeczywiście nie wróży nic dobrego. W Warszawie ostatnio też były straszne deszcze i burze, pozalewało mnóstwo rzeczy. dziś na razie pieknie, ale z Warszawy tyle jest zdjęć....
Co to było z mokrymi spodniami? zagadkowa sprawa...

Jedn± z rzeczy których najbardziej w ¿yciu ¿a³ujê, to, ¿e gdy jakie¶ 6 lat temu by³em w Irlandii moje zainteresowanie fotografi± by³o... ma³e, mówi±c oglêdnie. Zdjêæ nie robi³em. Na szczê¶cie mamy na wyspach swoich ludzi, którzy prezentuj± nam dzie³a takie jak to. I za to Ci dziêki.

Zdjêcie znakomite pod ka¿dym wzglêdem - staranna kompozycja ze s³oñcem w mocnym punkcie. Barierka i, jakby izometrycznie z³apana, latarnia nadaj± zdjêciu g³êbi. Dodatkowo promienie s³oñca piêknie podkre¶laj± fakturê bruku. Gratulacje.

Hot stuff here with a excellent post-processing.

The sun is perfectly placed in your location and you have achieved a very nice balance with your angle, so every elements in the image seem to have its proper importance.

I like the subtle hues in your clouds and the reflection on wet pavement.

A fantastic mood to this lovely composition. I like the low point of view with the last of the sun's rays reflected across the well worn paving stones. Exposure is perfect with just enough detail in the paving stones and lighthouse and no evident over-exposure around the sun. Lovely warm/cool tonal contrasts.

Fantastic view with thick rainy clouds against the golden sunlight and make the scenery half in bright and half part in dim, clear to show the rocky floor and tower under poor lighting condition, impressive view at a summer evening, good shoot.

what sun light and perspective! I like the good placement of the sun in the scene as its light is enchasing the colours in the sky. Indeed,it is so much better to provide the expansive horizontal view here,with the subdued light,and the sun still painting pastoral colors in the clouds makes this a memorable shot.Well done.
