Photographer’s Note
Look at those incredibly ugly hind feet, with fingers or toes almost 3 cm long with pointed claws! Red squirrels have five toes on the hind feet, and they are highly specialized climbing tools. On the front feet there are only four fingers or toes as the thumbs have developed into pads they use to hold the food while eating.
The name “red” squirrel is not entirely adequate, as only 20-25% of the animals actually are red, most are dark brown with a touch of grey. Storøre here is as red as they come, but he and a female squirrel - namely his mother - are the only red ones in a group of nine.
Storøre was born in the beginning of May, and first time I saw him was around Midsummer. Young red squirrels stay in the nest until they have developed teeth, which takes around six weeks. By then the youngsters are about the same size as the grown-ups, at least in length.
The squirrels in my backyard know very well where some of the food and most important the hazelnuts come from, so they are very anxious to come inside and explore for themselves. So far I have managed to keep them out but two days ago one of them slipped through an open window!
I’m not sure they are very smart, this fellow apparently panicked and could not find the way out… After running around in the house for many minutes he finally hit the right window and the way out, frankly I doubt he will try this again!
And I promise… this is the last squirrel I will publish, hehehe…
But this time you will find more squirrels in the workshops!

Hi Pablo,
The subject is well framed. The point of view is allowing us to seee the details and colors of the red squirrel. The blurred background is putting in evidence the foreground. The light has a good effect on the colors of the squirrel. Have a nice day.

Hello Pablo,
if I could set the rules on TE I would love to see more photos of animals here! and I do hope (secretly) that it will not be the last photo of "your" squirrel ;)
I like such photos very much. And I like this one especially. It's filled with kindness and hope, first of all. And, of course, its technical quality is excellent - especially the colours and DOF :) Oh yes, the WS photos are simply wonderful :)) I wish I had squirrels visiting our countryside yard, too! so in this respect I envy you, pardon me for this, please :)
And a special thanks for a very interesting Note to this photo! it was written perfectly, in my opinion.
Best wishes for a nice Sunday from rainy Moscow :)

This is a real cut image of the red squirrel. It sounds as if they treat your garden as home so you will have had plenty of opportunity to hone your technique. I love the little storyboard in the WSs.
The red squirrel is native to Britain too, but for some reason they introduced the larger American grey squirrel which is expanding its range across the country, and taking over the habitats of the red squirrels, which are now in danger. There are estimated to be only 140,000 red squirrels left in Britain, with over 2.5 million greys.

This is one of those rare cases when the subject in the center is fine and proper. So the composition is well balanced and immediately appealing, thanks also to the fine chromatic contrast between the brownish squirrel and the green bg. And it must be said that the subject immediately meets our smile and appraising, well captured in this curious pose and expression.
It's hard to believe (and accept) that this tiny and cosy creature is considered a plague in many Northern countries like England...

Ciao Pablo,
eheheheh, simpatica immagine. Davvero simpatica e anche molto originale.
Hai messo tu questo piccolo scoiattolo sopra la manopola della tua bike?
I like it! Too!

Hi Pablo, A beautifully sharp and well coloured nature photo. The squirrel is a good size for the frame and the item he is standing on suitable for TL photo. Good work and tfs. Murray.
