Photographer’s Note
The Place
The rocky shoreline in Dichato during a cloudy sunset. This is a place I have been trying to introduce to TE community. You can check in my gallery for other shots from here.
You can always check the location of my photos by clicking on the map link.
Background
During December, the sunset in this part of Chile is around 9PM, exactly the time for dinner at my parent’s place. Thus, it was very hard for me to leave home and wait for the right light for sunset photos.
But this time, I had the excuse that I had invited a friend who I met in Flickr to come over to take photos with me, so I had to go. My family let me go.
After the session I invited Alvaro to have dinner with us. We talked a lot about photography, and then they realized that I am not the only crazy guy who sets a camera on a tripod and takes 100 shots of the same rock for 25 minutes, and then goes to the very same rock the following sunrise..... there are more “crazy” people out there!
Technical
Used Cokin Grad 8ND filter.
With PS7: Playing with curves, contrast, saturation, resizing, sharpening, and framing.
WHat do you think about the frame? this one or full white around?

Dobar dan-popodne.
Odlican snimak. Dobra fotografija, kompozicija, boja i prednji plan koji daje car fotogtafiji. Pozadina sa tmurnim nebom daje dramaticnost. Snimak u pravom trenutku.
Pozdrav iz Srbije Paja.

Hello Jorge,
The milky water flow well rendered against the contrasting background of a glowing horizon and clouds echoing the movement of the water.
Well done.

Good morning Jorge -
Excellent image! I like the soft veil-like feel to receding water and the texture of the clouds. I know you are using an f/22 aperture but it looks like the distant horizon is slightly OOF. This also might be a bit of bleeding from the OE sun spot. I am just being a bit picky as it does not distract from the image.
Was you Cokin ND grad one of the colored filters? I am not a real fan of adding color to the sunset, usually the sunset has enough color without adding more. Anyway, a very nice image.
Thank you for sharing.

An excellent shot! The foreground rushing water is made more powerful by softening it just enough. All elements work perfectly within your frame.

Hi Jorge,
a classic but efficient composition here. You obviously have a very good commend of the tech specs. About the frame though, I gotta say I'm not really convinced. I reckon this type of frame works best with horizontal framings. Here it seems a bit strange, at least to me. I'd rather go for the full (white...or black) frame.
Best,
Philippe

Hola Bruno,
this is very dramatic. The tones on the sky and the effect on the water make this a very attractive photo. I also like the framing. Very well done!

Hi, Jorge -
As I commented in my photo submitted just after yours, dinner can always wait when there's a good photo to be had. Great composition combining the naturally flowing sky with the water made to flow via a slow shutter. Nice planning!
(I can't say I'm fond of the frame, though. It feels gimmicky to me, and this photo does NOT need gimmicks!)
Best,
Dan

hi Jorge,
I really like this photo, the pale colours and smoke-like water in the foreground creates beautiful dreamy mood, the scene feels fragile despite the rocky coast. and how much time did you spend before you find a place where rushing waves would create an inverted V shape that seems to point towards the setting sun? :) your commitment to photography is obvious here, hat off.
best,
Kristine

Hi Jorge,
Thanks for sharing this beautiful sunset. A Tripod comes in quite handy for this type of picture. I really like your sunset but I find the foreground even more captivating.
Your frame is different but I think that it is very becoming for this type of picture.

Paul
