Photographer’s Note
....now lights are shining
....no sounds of guns....just silent and tapping feet on Dluga Ulica
...light...is not the one of blasting bombs....but just neon....
....the ships on Motlawa...just bring tourists to Westerplatte - the symbol of Polish pride and Heroes - and are not throwing shells on the city
Gdansk - Danzig...is where the nightmare began....although I am Italian...it's a place tied to me...I am not sure...but my Grandfather was also there - when he was prisoner of War after Sept. 8th 1943...or maybe he was wrong....anyhow...I followed his steps across Germany till there...
we have films, pictures, memories, even personal experiences from relatives....I think it's impossible to forget...as long as we still keep the memory of what happened
I was not expected to post today...just having a pause...but Clementi's shot provoked me...
since I often post historic pictures for my milestones....I could not miss today...and I think this shot is suitable for

Hello Silvio,
Yes not to forget, the men and women who lost lives in that terrible WW2.
Doing duty to defend thier Country. Not only on land,
merchant seamen, to keep supplies coming all in the war effort.
Let this never ever happen again.
You have posted a nice scene here, people enjoying the evening in piece and quiet.
Not so many think on this war, sitting there no.

Ciao Silvio,

Silvio,
Yes, we should never forget the men and women who have sacrificed to make our lands free and preserve our way of life.
This is a very good night photo with a nice blue hour sky. The curve of the street leads the eye through the shot nicely. The lighting and colors are fine as is the sharpness and detail of the shot. The people add a sense of scale for the scene.

Asa

Ciao Caro Silvio, I think of all your beautiful photos, this is somewhere near my favourite. I love the gold lights, that amazing navy-blue sky and the blur of the ghosts in the piazza. But I also like the story behind your photo - as every good photo has. Your brave grandfather, he and people like him need to be remembered. My soundtrack here is Adagio with Strings - or is that too melodramatic?

Ciao.
Bobo.

A well framed night scene, with effective use of slow shutter for that color and light effect.

Ciao Silvio, I somehow missed this photo earlier. Good shot for this moment. From my earlier childhood I heard about this day on Westerplatte. Mind, it was only some years after the war. When I heard the planes coming unexpectedly I was thinking it was a new war. Luckily, I do not know war time. But till now I do not see any films about war, even the best, or any books.
