Photographer’s Note

It's not hard to figure out how Emerald Lake in Yoho National Park got it's name. The color is due to glacial silt in the water that blocks all colors of the light spectrum except blue and green when the sun is shining on the water.

Hi Colin,

I like very much the color you've captured in this lake. But even moreso, I really like the way that the reflection is combined with a transparent/translucent character that imparts a wonderful richness to the scene.

On top of these features, the sprinkling of red in the distant hillside and the details we can see in the foreground left, both above and beneath the surface, make this a special image, indeed!

This is one of the best pictures I have ever seen of this lake. Because of the reflection, the light, the green band at the horizon, it has a very special atmosphere. Very good
