Photographer’s Note

In Belém, the capital of the Para state in Brazil, the Docks Station is a traditional cultural site that holds an important part of the city’s history. The Port Areas Revitalization Program’s objective is to revitalize the Docks for new uses, without losing its characteristic atmosphere and historic heritage.

Through the project, three French-style warehouses of the Docks that date from early last century have been rebuilt and revitalized, being transformed into a great center of arts, culture, gastronomy, leisure, tourism and commerce.
Inaugurated in the year 2000 the revitalized Docks have been projected to improve the tourism activity in the Para estate, generating income and jobs.
Special attributes and names have been given to the three rebuilt warehouses: the first is the “Arts Boulevard”, the second warehouse is the “Gastronomy Boulevard” and the third is the “Markets and Expositions Boulevard”.

The Docs Station of Belém is now a national reference for tourism and culture in the Amazon region. It has been consolidated as a place for the presentation of local artistic and cultural expressions. Today, the Docks receive around six thousand visitors daily.
