Photographer’s Note
Another photo from the Downtown East Side of Vancouver, BC. This shot was taken very close to the Gastown area. I took it earlier in the morning when there weren't many people on the streets. I liked the splash of colour between the two more neutral buildings.
Take care,
Tosca

Hi Tosca
This scene compliments all your other photos from Vancouver.
Love the pastel colours which are very bright and not overexposed. The black stairwell adds a nice touch of contrast to the light colours.
Picturesque street scene!

Hi tosca
I stayed in Gastown on my first night in Canada in a hotel for $75. I thought it strange that they wouldn't accept cash, but insisted on my credit card instead. I later learned that this part of town can be rough around the edges. So damage to a hotel room is deducted from your credit card. Apparently, the further west you go, the rougher it gets. I like the sunlight streaking the walls at right. Good sharpness & well titled. Tfs!

hello Tosca,
I like the splash of colour too and the quality of light that allowed this colour. I also like all the little detail. The fire escape ( and its reflection in the window), the flags and the black & white signs from which you took your title. However, I think this would have been stronger had you taken it striaght on rather than at an angle. That way the architecture would have lined up better with the frame.
I see that you have a photographer's eye, the technical expertise will come later. Welcome to Trekearth.

Hi Tosca
This well seen. The two brightly coloured buildings show well here and you caught some mottled sunlight on the yellow facade. Nicely done.

Hi Tosca,
yes, ain't life grand? :-) Nice shot of the empty street with the closed gate on the store and those friendly flags. Yes, the splash of color is great - as is the typical fire escape!
Have a great weekend and take good care!

Ton image de Downtown, Tosca, est une belle invitation. Je remarque les escaliers qui peuvent servir. Et les couleurs chaudes des facades. C'est un nouveau plaisir de te revoir,

Hi Tosca, it's a great time of day to be taking photos isn't it? There are such interesting and colourful buildings in your town. Great blocks of colour and shapes. Nice spotting and thanks for the look into your city, Lisa.

Hi Tosca,
This is a very nice shot, yes the splash of light that scattering across the building illiminated the colors nicely, while the rest of the architecture is also nicely captured with decent details and texture, even in the low light. a quiet city scene before everyone wakes up. Thanks. Yes, Life is grand, enjoy every moment of it. See the world.

Hi Tosca,
Yeah me too, I think the colours look great.
Good light on the face of the buildings, hard to beat a bit of dappled sunlight I say.
Good quality image, sharps, exposure and composition all pretty good.

Pete

Hi Tosca... a very warm welcome to TrekEarth! Good to see some fellow canucks on here (especially from the west coast) ;-)
Although I didn't make it through the Downtown East side when I was last back (closest I got was having a beer outside Steamworks Brewing Company). I've read in the Province (online) how they're cleaning up that area- and it really shows in this shot. It almost looks like a hollywood backlot in that it has old character buildings- yet it's ... 'clean'!
Now one thing about me- I don't sugar coat. And if you're serious about your photography I'm sure you'll appreciate that vs. the false praise that seems to fly around TE these days. However they are just my opinions and I'm only human ;-P
Sharp detail, good levels (ie: nothing over/ under exposed), natural colors (not oversaturated). The image does suffer from Keystoning (click that link), which is a fairly common problem. However for shots such as this where architecture is the main subject (it covers almost the entire frame) I think it's vital that the keysotning be corrected to give the image more impact. Giving it something to make it stand out apart from the normal tourist shots you may see. For an example of what I mean- take a look at my theme Vancouver Reflections. See if you can guess which ones have been keystone corrected and which ones haven't.
All the best!

Hi Tosca,
beautiful buildings, I like the falcade colours, maybe I would take a wide angle, but I don't know if it was possible, btw, nice picture,

Hi Tosca,
The reflexions on the windows ar assets to the composition. The point of view is showing with precision the details and colors of the architecture of the buildings. There is a light lens distortion. The early morning light is enhancing the colors. Have a nice day.
