Fajão The neighborhood is located north of the county and borders the Arganil. The town is surrounded by outcrops of ancient Iberian Meseta, called "Rocks of Fajão." The houses of slate and shale which have been reported indicating the supremacy of the typical buildings.

According to Pinho Leal Fajão derives etymologically from Fayão, word Goth (male first name). The traditional Fajão tales collected and published in 1989 by Monsignor Nunes Pereira, are testament to the legendary wealth of the region. Many of them date back to the Middle Ages and the "judge of Fajão" represents a symbol, transmitted from generation to generation.
