Photographer’s Note

Outside many Buddhist temples, you'll find birds sellers... They sell them to the faithful, who buys them in order to gain 'merit' by freeing them... But these poor birds are almost immediately caught again by teams of boys with long gluey sticks to be sold once more...
You can see them in action in the workshop
This is a cage full of little birds, with the seller's hand keeping the cage closed...

A la sortie de la plupart des temples Bouddhistes, il y a des marchands d'oiseaux. Ils les vendent aux fidèles afin qu'ils puissent les libérer, et donc acquérir du 'mérite', genre la BA de la journée!
Le problème est que ces malheureux volatiles sont pris en chasse et immédiatement recapturés par des bandes d'enfants avec de longs bâtons englués...

Ton image, superbe, et le ws provoquent l'irritation et le dégoût pour cette pratique, une de plus néfaste à la vie animale, pour l'argent. Une image de qualité, un document utile. Bravo.

C'est a la fois beau et triste, ces petits oiseaux privé de liberté, nous vivons dans un monde cruel envers les animaux et tout ça pour de l'argent..
J'aimerai tenir la main et ouvrir la cage en espérant....

It is a sad life these poor birds lead, but I guess they bring hope to some and income to others. Nice catch, the sellers hand is a wise inclusion for scale and to anchor the shot. Good work and thanks for sharing.

Quite an interesting catch...freedom vs bondage. What do they do with these birds? A sad practice, but seems that lots of people earn their livelihood from this practise...well conceived and taken

"Ouvrez, ouvrez la cage aux oiseaux!" ;) Oui, cette pratique est bien triste et en même temps ça permet aux vendeurs de survivre dans ce monde cruel!

Bonjour Laurent.
Si les oiseaux ne souffrent pas, c'est assez bien joué de la part des vendeurs et le fait de délivrer un oiseau reste une bonne action. J'aime cette photo très symbolique, c'est la main de l'homme qui est capable de capturer mais aussi de délivrer.
