Photographer’s Note

The National Mosque is a uniquely designed building that embodies a contemporary expression of traditional Islamic art. It’s design is based upon the Grand Mosque in Mecca with 48 small domes and the main dome has the character of a multi fold “semi-opened blue umbrella” that is the roof which symbolises the 5 pillars of Islam and the 13 states of Malaysia. The 73 meter tall minaret has the shape of a “closed blue umbrella”.

The mosque with its very ultra-modern design is situated among 12 hectares of beautiful gardens and is one of the largest in Asia. The National Mosque was completed in 1965 at a cost of more than RM 10 million.

As with all mosques you are required to take off your shoes (and cover your head if you’re a woman). Make sure you are suitably dressed if you want to go inside. Special robes are provided if you are not appropriately attired.

I first went here in July 1990. I like the repetition of the Malay flags. Reasonable sharpness & well composed. Nice graphism of the minaret. Tfs! Have a great weekend!

Bonita mostra de um dia-a-dia de Kuala Lumpur.
Gostei das bandeiras enfileiradas na vertical e também do clima de descontração das pessoas, fotografando e sendo fotografadas em um clima bastante familiar.

Olá António,

É impressão minha ou há pelo menos 3 fotógrafos na foto e se calhar mais um a imitar (ou será que são 2)?
Folgo em saber que se pode entrar nessa mesquita, uma coisa que me irrita um bocado é esse hábito que têm em quase todos os países muçulmanos que visitei de raramente se poder entrar.

Como quase todas as mesquitas tem um ar muito bonito e elegante, que se nota moderna e original, mas que é fácil identificar como mesquita. Escolheste bem o PDV/enquadramento.

Será que os comentadores anteriores não viram o WS? Estranho que ninguém diga que o WS devia ser a foto principal; para mim sem qualquer dúvida. Ainda por cima o exterior ficou com um céu um bocado triste.

Antonio, acredito que sua intenção aqui foi mostrar tranto o mosteiro como essa praça, uma visão geral. Porém acho que devido ao grande numero de grafismos (piso, fonte e o próprio mosteiro) a foto ficou ao meu veu um tanto poluída visualmente. Talvez uma foto só do mosteiro ou só da praça funcionasse melhor. Valeu grato mesmo assim por compartilhar o momento. Interessante a arquitetura islamica atual, estou acostumado a ver aqui somente as obras antigas.

Great to include the other visitors as well in particular the photographer. Fine pastel color hues because the weather was not at its best, however does it has to be always sunshine? Nonetheless clever use of light and shadows. Well done
