Photographer’s Note
This is the typical church architecture we can find all over the Norwegian countryside.
The building material is timber, the church can seat 210 and was finished in 1911, architect was Lars A Mogstad. Since then the building has been restored several times. The chapel is serving the hamlet Rindalsskogen in a mountain area in Møre og Romsdal county.
Øvre Rindal chapel is located near Trollheimen National Park, and the surroundings are typical farmland with sheep and cows.
One thing I have noticed is that rural churches usually have trees planted around and on the graveyard, but always is that birch and never evergreens. I wonder why?

Hi Pablo,
This is really a very typical church here, with a style that very much resembles the old stave churches. But why birches around? I think birches are more beautiful than spruce or fir, aren´t these evergreens more appropriate for funerals, maybe? The birch here is very fine together with the chapel.

Good morning, Pablo!
You have had a wonderful light that day! I like this humble and somehow "human" architecture here very much. More actually isn't "needed" to hold service. An inviting little church ...

Excellent POV, you've captured exactly the perspective one would have if you were visiting this church. I can see myself having a quiet stroll between the gates and a little exploratory walk around the grounds.
The sharps and colours are wonderful, a beautifully composed shot, perfect.

Very nice colors, and good point of view. For the birch, this is clearly a local tree in Scandinavia and Finland. In other countries, other trees: cypresses, for example, because of their dark green colors.

The trees before the chapel and surrounding lawn sieged by the wallslates are only a few of the aspects I stand out. The bench faces to the sun to the nature fresh environment. If the village is a quiet one it does not suffer any alterations by the modern creativity. Regards. Domingos

Hello Pablo,
When I saw this picture I asked myself: where did I have seen this? The Norwegian countryside, of course!
I was surprised to see so many timber constructions in Norge, because they are very rare in my country (Portugal).
About birch trees around the graveyards, I don't know why. In Portugal the tradition for graveyards are cypress (Cupressus sempervirens), which are really ever-evergreens, very dark ones! A reason I read is straightforward: the type of roots don't disturb the ground and the graves below. I don't know about birch roots.
Good composition and nice light on this shot.
Greetings,
F.

Hi Pablo,
a very nice impression of this interesting church and an excellent composition, the image almost looks like folk art. Your note is also interesting, unfortunately I do not know the answer why people plant birches instead of evergreens. Maybe it is because the birches are more picturesque?

Hello Pablo, that is an interesting observation you have made, you have me thinking, usually we plant deciduous trees in Australia because the give shade in summer & let the sunlight through in winter, I wonder if these trees have a significance, similar to the Acacia Tree it, a symbol of stability and resilience. I wonder. Anyway a lovely, sharp, well composed scene, nice natural colours & beautiful light, with a Birch tree up front that has raised some interest. Well done & thank you
