Infinity Symbol, a photo from Durham, England

Photographer's Note

Third of bridges across River Tees in my TE gallery is the pedestrian Infinity Bridge. Funny thing, I have realized where its name comes from next day after coming back from this photo session. As mentioned before: North East England is a great place for bridge lovers, and I am going to provide some more evidences for it hopefully soon.

Infinity Bridge is a public pedestrian and cycle footbridge across the River Tees in the borough of Stockton-on-Tees. The bridge had the project title “North Shore Footbridge” before being given its official name “Infinity Bridge”, chosen by a panel made from the funding bodies, using names suggested by the public. The name derives from the infinity symbol formed by the bridge and its reflection. The footbridge was completed on time and to budget in December 2008 with 530 workers and uses in total some 450 tonnes of Corus steel, 1.5 km of locked coil steel cable, 780 lights, 5,472 bolts and weighs 1040 tons. The bridge was officially opened on 14 May 2009.

I saw the thumbnail and knew this was yours ! And a darn sight better than my meagre offering. It makes me realise how much I have improved in a year ( I wont mention the dreadful wind that evening, or the white balance I had not discovered at that time... !! ) You have again taken the time to find the ideal POV, which makes the shot..

This is delightful, without the dreadful orange glow that so besets all our cities these days.. And, dare I say, you seem to have been lucky, or maybe carefully chosen, a windfree evening.. Whatever, this is a picture to be proud of, and illustrates the source of its chosen name to perfection. ( No, probably perfection would be a slight crop to the top, the bring the RH steelwork into the corner to match the lower RH corner :-) )

No doubt about it this passes the 'Would I put this picture on my wall ?' test to perfection and so gets my maximum award - ( of two points ) !

Witaj Mariusz,

What a spectacular shot, and what impressive design for the bridge. It's a credit to the Brits for commissioning a structure that combines form and function in the manner that Calatrava's Bridge in Venice does, but it is on a much grander scale. This photo I hope will get the attention that it clearly deserves.

this one is SO unique.
I have never seen a bridge like this ever, and what a combination of blues and silvers, wow!
I wonder how the composition would look if you took out the ground on the left, ending the photo where the bridge and its reflection meet...but thats just curiousity.

to zdjecie jest niesamowite, wykonane perfekcyjnie. Wspaniala konstrukcja mostu i przepienkne odbicie w wodzie. Nazwa tego mostu jest bardzo trafna. Seing double! What a wonderful calm night capture of this beautiful famous infinty landmark. Excellent view point, exposure control with excellent use of available light in amazing colors There's exquisite contrast between the lit part of the structures and those in the dark night sky and the tones appear to be complements each other. great shot, I don't think I have ever seen this bridge before, so that is really fantastic that you introduce it. Maybe it will become a popular destination soon. TE did make a few places popular than it use to be. For instance, other than the usual famous national parks in Utah, not to many know about places like Antelope Canyon and some other smaller places.

Anyway, Beautiful photo with perfect reflection that shape like a guitar with strings.

Maybe a bit of a disrespectful comparison but the bridge and its reflection make me think at a pair of pincers.
The illuminated structure looks splendid, completely surrounded by the bluish tones of the sky and the river.

there is a fantastic graphical effect in this capture of the bridge, with a structure that is reflected in the water creating a shape of infinity symbol, which you have caught in a good framing.
The lighting of the elegant elements of the bridge creates a beautiful atmosphere, and the long exposure time offers us a few wonderful textures on the water.
It is a superb composition.

This is a stunningly well composed and taken photograph with the most beautiful and incisive reflections. Curiously, when I first looked, I was immediately reminded not of the infinity symbol but of "α", the Greek letter alpha!

Your picture complies perfectly with the revered "Rule of Thirds" and the lead-in lines of the bridge and its reflection from the top and bottom right corners respectively are just perfect. The lighting also is excellent, not only on the bridge itself but also in the sky and on the water - you have clearly chosen exactly the right time to take this one. Exposure, contrasts, colours and sharpness are all exquisite.

A lovely photograph which is going into my "favourites"!
