Making an early start can be rewarding when the mist lies in the Lyd Valley.
The River Lyd rises at Lyd Head which is on Corn Ridge, a vast sweep of hill between Great Links Tor and High Willhays.
It flows through the dramatic Lydford Gorge, the Lyd Valley and on into the River Tamar at Lifton.

A beautiful shot !
I like the luminous FG with the sheep looking at us, the silhouette of the big naked tree, the layers of forest more or less in the mist
Ninello52 (7065) 2012-05-09 11:00
Fantastic image! Very beautiful light and beautiful colors! Striking the fog behind the tree that shades the landscape in the background! Fantastic two sheep that look at you while photographers.
Best regards, Nino.

You have successfuly captured that rare combination of excellent light and mist so well done for getting up early. The sheep and the tree are excellent FG subjects but made much more interesting by the fabulous moody BG. Excellent image.
Bartleby (13238) 2012-05-09 11:51
wow such a beautiful pastoral scene. The colored layers of mist truly are eye-catching and the sheeps echo the tree in the composition. This is fine photography.

Hello Leslie ,
A fantastic capture ! The BG and the Fg seem to be two different pictures . The superb light on the FG , the mist on the BG ... the effect is remarkable . The composition is great , too , with the sheep and teh tree perfectly placed .

What a nice and moody picture of this beautiful morning! Love the visual effect created by mist and such a special lighting. Excellent composition. Like it a lot.
ourania (18632) 2012-05-09 12:35
this picture is composed in a fscinating way with so many interesting, well placed and intriguing elements, the result is awesome. The diagonal of the subtly lit grassy slope adds dynamism; the dark naked trees with their branches spreading against the mist offer drama; the layers half hidden by and half emerging from the mist give a captivating intrigue; the two serious lambs looking towards us are like guards of a fairyland. I love the exquisite lighting and colours, the delightful morning atmosphere. Beautiful picture, congratulations and thank you!
All the best,
MJR (3340) 2012-05-09 13:27
Simply, simply gorgeous !
Colour, composition, the sheep are just spot on, and the misty backdrop - all lovely.
Early light,( when I get it ! )is the best, and you have made esp good use of it here.

frunchy (1517) 2012-05-09 14:46
excellent image! The sheep are positioned just right and the sligh tilt in the grass line gives the rest of the composition togehter with the tree and the clouds. Well done and best regards, F.

Hello Leslie - What a breathtaking shot. Full of early morning beauty. The light on the mid-section mist is very lovely as it adds a soft warm glow to the shot. This surely must be one of your very best landscapes, just delightful to see. To my eyes faultless. Warm regards rosemary
macondo (18461) 2012-05-10 1:26
Wow, what a corker this is. It's an absolutely stunning early morning picture with everything - well, the sheep and the tree - in just the right place for balance. Very nice highlights in the foreground grass and sheep's coat, and those wonderful mist-shrouded layers of fields behind. I find the outline of the twisty tree and fine branches against the mist to be fascinating. Really super shot.

Wonderful picture with the fog above the valley.
Excellent management in foreground with mother sheep and lamb
Perspective and depth image to the end of the view.
You chose an excellent angle, splendid presentation.
Very well done, TFS.

love this! So atmospheric, typically English and so delightful. Love the light and the mist is glorious as are the tantalising tree skeletons. Also has the Ah! factor with Mum looking after the youngster and posing so nicely for you.
Warm regards - Brian.

It seems a pity to give this a critique for it is a most beautiful shot that is a pleasure to look at.
However, I will tell you what I appreciate most: first, the mood with the enveloping mist, is almost magical; then the sheep and the skeletal tree are so well positioned within the frame and, lastly, the light illuminating the grass and just thickening the mist, is superb.
A admire people who can get up early to experience this!
Have a lovely day,
abmdsudi (32505) 2012-05-10 4:22
A beautiful and extremely calming composition, which certainly stands out and I love the way the low sun light just highlights the sheep and the green slopes. The tree is positioned in the picture so that it frames the scene, which works really well. Beautiful tones, the softness and mist in the background and its effect add the overall serenity of the image, pease and quiet. Very different Leslie, in fact the more I look the better it gets. This certainly has loads of atmosphere. Fine photo works, Congrats, TFS

Truly attractive and pleasant-looking picture!
Special regards to the colors, management of light, chosen pov, horizontal format and composition! The inclusion of those sheep was quite welcome!

this is a beauty! Well worth the early rise.Love the warm morning light in the fg and the isty mid ground. The mist shows of the form of the tree superbly.
bayno (18334) 2012-05-10 12:44
beautiful landscape, I really like the light and colors, the mist that rises makes even more special atmosphere of tranquility of this place, the sheep that look at you curiously give dynamism to the scene, amazing the difference between this light in top grazing and the down valley still immersed in the humidity..very nice shot...
tyro (15711) 2012-05-10 15:38
I think I recognise this valley and those sheep from another picture taken that early morning! :)
A perfectly composed photograph, the tree perfectly placed on the "thirds" line and cleverly separating the clear foreground from the misty distant view. The lovely sidelighting provided by the low warm early morning sun has illuminated the ewe and lamb and the mist beautifully. And, of course, the distant trees viewed through the mist are just magical.
And were you looking due north here? :)
macjake (45588) 2012-05-10 15:44
good for you to be up early to capture these scenes.
although you DO have company :)
the tree on the right looks amazing, especially when accompanied by the misty fog.
the side lighting is a bonus!
adores (30831) 2012-05-10 18:35
Another great morning shot! The atmosphere is so perfect, with the fog covering the trees in background and the soft morning light on the grass and sheep. They are really looking at your camera:)! Good shot!
daddo (20639) 2012-05-11 5:24
So beautiful Leslie! So English too, or as I imagine England to be after reading the Romantic poets. I can almost imagine Coleridge or Wordsworth taking a morning stroll in such a glorious setting with its soft light, its rolling hills and morning mist.I also think that the trees in England and Europe have so much character compared to the gumtrees. Lovely work. Best wishes. Klaudio.

mayjayne (2888) 2012-05-12 7:58
Lovely misty composition; the light coming from the right side forms delicate highlights to the animals and grass.
brianmcc (5788) 2012-05-12 17:18
the early morning atmosphere in this picture is superb. the mist is wonderful and helps to isolate the lne tree to the right of the picture. the colours are beautifully lit by the sun. and the two sheep are placed perfectly to complete the image.
ashres (1453) 2012-05-13 2:35
what a great capture. these sheep added a life to the beautiful picture with fog vanishing with the presence of the sunlight.

As I was saying to Noel, Britain and Ireland have some spooky trees and they make fantastic photographic subjects. The mist, the colourful foreground and the mysterious background all combine beautifully to make a formidable composition. Great stuff.
Warm regards to you and G

Amazing foggy landscape. I love such a moments, especially with sheep. The only pity is that I can`t hear them bleating ;).

CLODO (26450) 2012-07-07 3:45
Looking at your gallery, I found many landscapes and I choose this one for the atmosphere given by the mist, contrasting with the sunny area at the FG. Sheeps are well located as the bare tree, according to the rule of the third.
