Photographer's Note

The earthquake of 1839 CE occasioned considerable damage to the northeast corner of the pagoda. For the curious, and I was not one, a set of external steps was added to allow visitors to climb the 50 metres to the roof of the pagoda (after removing your footwear, of course). The view 500 metres to the north of the white Myatheindan Pagoda is stunning.
