Photographer's Note

There are lots of people in this photo, but they are far away on the quay, so you will hardly see them.

This view of central Stockholm and the Old town, as seen from one of the hills of Södermalm island, is well known but the cranes framing it are new. A large area between the Old town and Södermalm is now probably the largest building site in Sweden, and maybe in northern Europe, and will remain so for many years to come. The sluice system, Slussen, regulating the flow of water between Lake Mälaren and the Baltic Sea, is being rebuilt and the streets surrounding it will get a new design. New houses will be built. When everything is completed, around 2025, this part of Stockholm will look completely different.

Here is a larger version.

One workshop photo shows the Old town from the same place on Södermalm. Another additional photo shows the Slussen construction site with central Stockholm in the distance.

The map coordinates for where I took this photo are 59.31877 18.07743.
