Photographer’s Note

Because this subject pops up now and then, I do a post about inspiration we can find seeing the shots taken by others

So for example, shooting a church will be a Papagolfade, shooting a person in south east Asia might well be a Simonade and shooting a sweeping monk for sure will be a Lukoade

How about shooting a lady from behind ?
Well there are good chances this could become a Dolinade as you can see in the original inspiring version here.
Mine has been taken in Basel where it is a common practise to have lunch on the Rhine banks in summer.

Since I am in a teasing mood due to the approaching week end, there is a little contest that comes with this photo, who will first find the beginner mistake I did shooting that one ?

j'aime bien ces images avec les gens qui regardent ce que tu photographies, ca donne plus de encore plus de profondeur a la photo et bien sur une lecture de bas en haut...
Moi c'est pas pour remuer le couteau, mais je fais le pont....oups ;o)

Bonjour Jean-Yves,
Comme quoi, je ne suis pas le seul à porter mon regard vers les églises, la jeune femme semble attirée par le pont et l'église au loin. D'ailleurs si l'on regarde bien les doigts de la jeune femme, l'on remarque que deux sont levés désignant les deux choses intéressantes (pont et église) ! ;-))
Je suis un peu crazy par ces temps lourds !
Très belle prise de vue.

bonjour jean-yves; have you thought about introducing a "francoinade" definition? what that would be? i think landscapes, sacral archi, just for start... and in principle - a quest for tranquility? escape from the city-rumour?
even on this shot - the sitting persons search for a bit of rest from a daily life; very characteristic for you french guys :-))

Bonjour Jean-Yves,
A pleasant shot with quite elegant foreground as well as background. I thought it's Zurich, looking at the thumbnail first -- it's interesting, that the characters of these two Swiss towns are so similar (I haven't been to Basel yet). Well done.

Hello JY,
en voyant la vignette je me suis dit : "Tiens dolin est encore aller traquer les jeunes demoiselles !"
Faut croire que cette dolinade est réussie ! ;-)
Bel endroit pour manger et oublier pendant quelques temps les soucis du bureau.
Tiens ça me fait penser que d'ici 35 min je vais me diriger au bord du Léman et y déguster une bonne pizza, miam miam.
Ok tout le monde s'en fout.

Très bonne idée que cette dolinade...
Peut-être m'y essayerai-je un jour.
Surtout avec ces chaleurs estivales, les dos se dénudent.

Ta note m’a bien fait sourire, pour une Dolinade il ne faut qu’une demoiselle exclusivement !

J’aime ton cadrage vertical qui dynamise cette image. La composition est très bien faite, sans les filles de l’avant plan, il y aurait un vide.
Dommage que tu n’avais pas une très bonne lumière car le pont et la ville sont dans l’ombre.

allez mets la en workshop la photo de toi entoure de ces 3 demoiselles, je suis sure que tu en as une ;) sinon tu es hors concours...
on peut se baigner la dedans ? parce qu'elles me donnent chaud a manger en plein cagnard.

Jolies couleurs (blond, rouge et noir) à l'avant plan, on en oublierait presque de regarder le pont de Bâle...

Obvious, you didn't get a kebab from Sam's Pizzaland or some great Thai food from that take-away on the Claraplatz. A coffee from Starbucks and a sandwich doesn't count as a true Kleinbasel lunch break.

The bridge with the five curves give a great perspective, the church in the background give a nice composition, but the foreground is specially through the present of the peoples.

Very nice framing, Jean-Yves. I don't care looking for a mistake here, I think the overall result really turned out nice with the relaxed group of people enjoying the pleasant summer view towards Basel's old town.
I think I see a Starbucks coffee cup in the foreground beside the girl.

Hi Jean-Yves. The only mistake I see is not zooming in on the girl! :) You chopped some of the buildings on the side, is that what you were getting at? For such an ultra-wide angle lens I see no distortion at all, which is obviously great. Good job JY!

I like the strong contrast, between the muted, pastel colors, & lighting, in the background, & the strong brightness, & vibrant colours, in the foreground. Good pov & depth. The composition looks fine to me, although I may have tried a landscape format, to include more of the bridge. Well done, et c'est tres bon!

Sur TE on en apprend tous les jours et cela fait que chacun inspire chacun.
Ta note pleine d'humour souligne une évidente réalité, en effet lorsque j'ai le plaisir de photographier une église je me sens devenir papagolf!
Je constate que tu utilises le 10-22mm de Canon, c'est un must! (par contre ISO 800 avec cette luminosité?)
J'aime bien la composition que tu as choisie. Ce cadrage ne mérite-t-il pas d'être redressé un peu?
Quoiqu'il en soit bravo pour le cliché et la note.

Vu la note et l'inspiration, je la propulse dans le theme "à la manière de".
Je m'essie au concours :)) mais c'est dur de le considérer comme une faute grave : le toit du batiment en face n'est pas en horizon, et donc le quai tombe, ce qui veut dire que tu as une jambe plus longue que l'autre la gauche)....
La compo est bien éclairée, les sujets bien placés.

I think your main mistake on a day like this is to be on the river bank and not in the river!! You have used an interestingly fast shutter speed (maybe you were expecting her to get us very quickly and run away?)- either it was extreeemely bright, or else you had the ISO very high (not that I can see much graininess). Nice composition - and it looks like one of my friends in the picture!
