Photographer’s Note
Sandip's 50% shot persuaded me upload this one...
The bike, the store, the 50 % and the girl in her 'semi-veil'. The cloaths in the store is at 50%, may be the bike is at 50%.
And now comes the girl into the picture..... maybe she is living her life at 50% why? Because the people around her is only 50% tolerant towards foreigners?? Because 50% of the time she might be worrying about her future and the administrative stuff??
Maybe it is worth thinking how a bit of attitude change in us can make a huge different to others... just like the 50% sale which does good to our WALLETS...
Not sure if all this makes sense to you???

Salut Bala !

I like the questions youn are asking here in relation to this image - I like too the way you have captured the woman within the zero - questions, questions, questions - so many these days - how is it so often we only get 50% of the answers?
thanks Kev

Hi Bala, I was just thinking of you tonight, and thought that I had noit seen you for a while, but then I checked your portfolio, and I remeber that great panninghot, on which I wanted to comment, but was too tired to write anything useful.
Strong conposition with the woman entering the frame, I wish she wouldn't have to worry about tolerance, but I know better nowadays after the murder on Theo van Gogh. I really am ashamesd of my fellow countrymen every now and then.
I like the reflection in the windows.

Super shot, Bala, but perhaps not for the exact same reasons you mention. She is a Muslim girl in Holland, one of the MOST TOLERANT countries in the world (has been for centuries). The community she belongs too has become increasingly intolerant of Dutch liberalism over the last few years, culminating in the extremely brutal murder of a Dutch film maker who had dared make a documentary that was not complimentary to Islam! The man who repeatedly stabbed the filmmaker was totally unrepentant at his trial, even smiling...!!!
All this is causing many Dutch people to worry, as possibly many Britons and Londoners are worried.
All I'm saying is there is another side to this story.
Of course any prejudice towards her is misplaced and highly reprehensible…so there is a 50/50 split somewhere.
I just wanted to rectify things a bit.
Excellent photograph, my friend.
All the best, Francis

HI Bala,
Grat pic, lots of emotions and thoughts stem from them. Lots of images regarding the 50%, I could add, perhaps she is living her life at 50% because her family won't let her enjoy the same fredoms other dutch girls enjoy, in any case, tons of questions and not even a 50% chance of answering them.
Green later

Quite some sense, I like your eloquent phylosophical on the side remarks, 50% of what, th byke, the girl, the reflection, everything has his price, and indeed too much for sale, the photo has these symbols that can make you wondering, nicely brought together with a good colorsetting to it.
Thanks for the thoughts

Very interesting shot. Love the reflection of a procession of people but the isolated girl is the strong focus of attention and her image is caught just within the zero. The bike adds to the depth and the mood. Very good image.

dear Bala,
could be a shot from Istanbul too..we have debates going forever about headscarves, radical Islam threatening etc..it is even sometimes difficult to be one as such in a country like ours...as arabic islam and ours are quite different (in our constitution, as well as the practise), this photo has a similat meaning here too..
unfortunately, most of the minoritites have left us long time ago, leaving this land of colors...now we have our own minoritites..
thanks, all the best

Your "City of bicylces" serie is really funny and effective. You should create a theme.
You do know find right title to your composition too.
