Photographer’s Note
Taken at dusk in the Chattahootchie National Forest in north eastern Georgia. This is a mountainous area in the Appalachians. A bit spooky at this time of day, no one else was around as I pulled off the road and walked off down a path into the woods. A bit of a fog was setting in.
Because of the low light, I used a tripod for this shot. I set the camera at the tilt you see here - no rotation in post process. I was sort of fond of the tilt when looking through the viewfinder as I thought it best captured the spooky atmosphere I felt in person.
Two shots taken at 17mm, one metered on the just below the bridge, the other on the remaining light coming through the trees. This is an overlay of the two shots, the second layer set to "multiply". I did this to try to even out the exposure. In the end, I preferred a version that was a little over exposed in the upper area, as it left a natural gradient feel throught the photo.
Converted to B&W in 16 bit, using the channel mixer with a low green setting. Sepia color tone added.

Hi Cliff. Nice shot of this river. Did you see Alan Jackson when you were there? ;) I know you love b/w but I would have liked to see this in color. I like the tilt too. Nice work and welcome back Cliff!

Hi Cliff,
Interesting composition the tilt works very good here.Good handling of the light contrasts even when there are some burned out parts on top.The wooden bridge is a good focussing point.B/W with the slight sepia tone
was a good choice here.

Nice job with the sepia on this one, Cliff, the tonal range you got is really pleasant. Also a pleasant view with the wooden footbridge crossing the creek. Lastly, a good technical exercise with the overlaying of the two photos you made. Well done, I remember going for a run by the Chattahootchie River when I was on a business trip to Atlanta some years ago.

This is indeed spooky, but also lovely. You are master of matching tone to mood, Cliff. This is a good example of that. Nice textures and details everywhere, too.
