Photographer’s Note

Taken at dusk in the Chattahootchie National Forest in north eastern Georgia. This is a mountainous area in the Appalachians. A bit spooky at this time of day, no one else was around as I pulled off the road and walked off down a path into the woods. A bit of a fog was setting in.

Because of the low light, I used a tripod for this shot. I set the camera at the tilt you see here - no rotation in post process. I was sort of fond of the tilt when looking through the viewfinder as I thought it best captured the spooky atmosphere I felt in person.

Two shots taken at 17mm, one metered on the just below the bridge, the other on the remaining light coming through the trees. This is an overlay of the two shots, the second layer set to "multiply". I did this to try to even out the exposure. In the end, I preferred a version that was a little over exposed in the upper area, as it left a natural gradient feel throught the photo.

Converted to B&W in 16 bit, using the channel mixer with a low green setting. Sepia color tone added.
