Photographer’s Note

7.07p.m. - I must thank Wes for reminding me on this milestone – 100 shots on TE. Yes, indeed I have reserved one very special shot for this important occasion.
My 100th shot on TE is especially dedicated to my daughter, Carolyn who graduated from the National University of Singapore last month. In fact we were in Singapore to attend her graduation ceremony held at the University Cultural Centre. So it is a milestone for me at TE but more important is that it is a milestone for her too. On top of it, this year also see NUS celebrating its 100th birthday. So you can see the significance of this shot.
I chose this shot also because the sculpture resembles a child being nurtured and loved and the building at the back was the venue of the graduation ceremony. The bright light from the foyer denotes the knowledge they have acquired that will brighten their way and helped them in their future undertakings. What great symbolism and meaning!
The University Cultural Centre was officially opened on the 5 September 2000 and built at a cost of $53.5 million. It is managed by the Centre for the Arts and hosts local, regional and international plays, concerts and other important events. It is also the venue for the Commencement ceremony where graduating students from the various faculties received their degree scrolls.
