Photographer’s Note

The Little Mermaid Sculpture at Langelinie quay is work of Edvard Eriksen, a naturalistic sculptor(1913).

The real story:
Brewer Carl Jacobsen got the idea to grant the danish corps de ballet some kind of monument!
At first it was supposed to be a fountain, but when the ballet " The Little Mermaid" was put up on the Royal Theatre, Jacobsen was so filled with enthusiasm when he saw the female solo dancer Ellen Price, that he asked Edvard Eriksen to make a draft for a sculpture. The sole dancer had to model for this sculpture.

The Fairytale of it:
At the age of 15, the little Mermaid for the first time swims to the surface of the sea, where she fell in love with the Prince she saved from drowning.
She lost her fish tail, when she sold her voice to the evil sea witch instead of the "most beatufiful legs any girl could ever have".
She would win the Prince and an imortal soul. She didn't get her Prince, but was transformed into deadly cold sea foam.
The Danish poet, H. C. Andersen has also mentioned the tale of the youngest daughter of the Sea King in his poem.

In anyway this little mermaid lets us have nice scenery:))
