Photographer’s Note
Located on the West Coast of Vancouver Island between Tofino to the North and Ucluelet to the South, lies "Long Beach". Together with the "Broken Group Islands" & the "West Coast Trail", the three geographically seperate areas make up the "Pacific Rim National Park".
Long Beach is best known for its incredible beaches & rugged headlands. A favorite for those wanting to hike the sandy trails, beachcomb, enjoy the pounding surf, the dense coastal rainforest or view an impressive array of bird & wildlife. Each spring over 20,000 grey whales migrate through the park waters. For those looking for a "whale-of-a-time", Tofino has a variety of Whale watching eco-companies that will show you a memorable time!
This photo was taken during low tide, looking out toward the ocean (to the left of the gren tree).
For those wondering how I achieved the effect;
I started by rotating the image to correct the horizon, and cropping. Secondly I went to saturation, and desaturated all the colors except for yellow and green. I next adjusted the levels to get the desired effect. Lastly I added a border. It's an older shot, taken on my Canon Powershot S50.
I hope you like it,
- Dan

Hi Dan,
Nice contrast between the green vegetation and the grey sky. There are grey tones in rocks. The green adds a life touch in this scenary. I like it.

A marvelous scene... I like all these colors of gray and then the strong green behind... Makes a fine composition... Picture make me want to travel to Vancouer where I'm born and lived for ½ year... Unfortnunaly I dont remember the place but I love to see pictures from there...
Thanks a lot for sharing...Ina...

Nice image with an unusual format and a great composition. Now Dan, did you play with the colors again? They're not bad at all but somewhat unusual, particularly the sky and the trees on top left. The only minor criticism is that I would like a bit more detail in the foreground rocks, but otherwise it's great to look at.

hi Dan,
a very well focused photo. I like the superb DOF here, and the exposure and grey overall tonality really changes the mood and spirit of the photo. I like it. nice shot.

Hi Dan,
You did a great job with bringing this scene to life. The green tree acts as a perfect counterpoint to the brown and grey shore colours. Your POV and DOF are superb, taking the eye neatly into the frame and then out to the distant sea. This is a fascinated place, though overrun a little by tourists. An artistic rendering which is very effective, Dan. Great work.

I looked at this first before raeding your note trying to figure out how you did it.
I like the effect; something different. You have also got a good sharp foreground. Well done
Kath
