Photographer’s Note

I went to Bukit Lawang on northern Sumatra where they have a rehabilitationcentre for orangutans.

There has been a lot of illegal felling of trees in the area, which caused a big flood almost 2 years ago. Most of the village and the rehabilitationcentre was destroyed.

It was just terrible to see, but when I was there last year they had started to rebuild everything. The village and the rehabilitationcentre were far from ready but they had made a new feedingplatform in the jungle from where they were feeding the orangutans, who had been running deeper into the jungle because of what happened.

I went trekking in the jungle and were lucky to see those fantastic animal.

i have to write you something about this picture, i have posted myself one on this subject before this summer (it's a last year picture) .
Your's seems more living, I suppose it's the way of looking at the right side...
No problems with the "guides" in Bukit?

This is a dream in Indonesia Tina isn't it, there are all marvellous landscape, the superb animals and a nice population .
i like this one for the nature evocation.

Hi Tina,
I remember this place, the orangs are so beautiful, so sad that they have been so abused. I am sad to hear of the flood, I guess the place is very different now... the jungle in Sumatera is seriously under threat, I want to visit again while there is still some left!
At least your pic is a nice one. Excellent composition, we can imagine being there in the jungle with all the leaves everywhere. Maybe lowering the highlihghts a little would improve the tone a little.
