Photographer’s Note

A deep and wet cloak of fog suddenly falled down on the river. The outlines of the shores are shading off with the sun, already a white hole in the sky.

Our boat engine turn low now... Our captain try to search our way thru the misty fog... Something like a ghost come toward of us, first indistinct then the shape of another boat slowly appear. We cruise in that wet stifle silence... just a wave with the mens before to leave behind the meeting with that magic vessel, that disappeared quickly swallowed by the morning fog.

The Chindwin River joins the Irrawaddy just above Pagan, and although a tributary, it too is one of the great rivers of Asia. The Chindwin is even more treacherous to navigate than the Irrawaddy and cruises are normally only offered during the monsoon period when it will be rainy but not all the time. River banks will be muddy and slippery. However you will pass through some of the most dramatic and exciting riverscapes possible. Jungle cascades into the fast flowing, muddy rivers and not far to the west across the steep mountain ranges, lies India.
