Photographer’s Note
these black hmong ladies were doing their weekend shopping. (no their not dressed for the tourists) if you get to sa pa, make sure you don't miss the saturday market.
"The old hill station of Sa Pa sits high on the edge of a plateau surrounded by spectacular scenery and the Hoang Lien Mountains, which boast Vietnam’s highest peak, Fransipan. Sa Pa functions as a market town and a gathering spot for local tribes who come into town to trade every weekend. The market is excellent for buying handicrafts and for watching the passing parade of a fascinating blend of people. Colourful tunics of the Dao and Giay people mix with the black and blue clothing and silver ornamentation of the Black Hmong tribe, while bright red scarves cover the heads of the Red Hmong who carry large woven baskets on their backs brimming with goods"

Hi Mark,
I posted today a very similar to this one, from china...
I love the way they are standing in queue, checking their black costum. Wonderful colours. I like the detail of that guy on the background smiling. Good captured!
Thanks for sharing,

as a whole it seems to me a scene from a film.. very very filmi... almost same kind of gesture they are doing here..
and ofcourse well spotted.. the DOF is excellent to brighten you subject as well..
blue on the right bottom corner of the leg is distracting my eyes..

Beautiful shot of these tree women with so many details to enjoy. Good use of DOF. I wonder what they all bought.........they are all carrying something black...hmm.
Would LOVE to go to Sa Pa. It seems like a very interesting, authentic and photogenic place on earth.

Hi Mark. the 3 women make a good photo but I think your composition is a little loose, you can't crop it out very well but the blue arm (or whatever it is) is not good in there and I don't like the guy in the background look at you. Other than those 2 details, it is a good shot, with good colors and nice light.

Nice shot of these three totally engaged in the shopping, not an eye for you at all, too busy looking at the material, i guess it is for their new clothes. the guy in the background did notice you, has a nice smile on his face.
(Seems like you had a good trip this year, just wonderign if this is all one, laos, Myanmar, Vietnam, or are you backwards and forwards.)

Sapa is one of my favorite places Mark, and this pic explains why. The culture of Sapa is slowly being globalized...but for the moment, they hold true to their values and way of life. Great pic. Perfect DOF and lovely colours. Thanks for sharing :)
