Photographer’s Note

Jour de mousson près du marché Kandal.
La pluie est une bénédiction mais elle est excessive.

Les cyclos nagent dans les égouts à ciel ouvert.
Le travail est plus dur mais les clients nombreux.
Les pédales sont plus lourdes.
Les trous dans la chaussée deviennent des pièges.
Les ordures qui flottent se coincent dans la chaîne.

La pluie, les cyclos l'attendent et la redoutent.

Day of monsoon close to the Kandal market.
The rain is a blessing but it is excessive.

The cyclos swim in the sewers with open sky.
Work is harder but there are many customers.
The pedals are heavier.
The holes in the roadway become traps.
The refuse which floats wedges in the chain.

The rain, the cyclos await it and fear it.

Salut Bertrand,
Encore une belle image de cette série sur la mousson à Phnom Penh. Chez nous lorsque l'eau atteint ce niveau dans les rues de la ville, cela fait la une des médias... ici, c'est une situation normale et chacun s'en accommode. Bon cadrage... on imagine assez bien la pression de l'eau sur les roues et l'effort supplmentaire que cela demande au conducteur du cyclo.
Bon, assez causé... je dois retrouner à mes bouquins. Je te souhaite un bon dimanche!

A very well taken daily life shot. It's hard to imagine the difficulties faced here. A hard job for a cyclo driver.

Belle scène de vie d'une apres mousson dans cette ville cambodgienne.
La scène est un peu trop chargée, ce qui fait que le cyclo-pousse et ses personnages ne se détache peut-etre pas assez du fond. Ca reste une belle photo.

What brings a smole to my face on this shot is the totally non plussed looks on the faces of the rickshaw driver and passengers,I suppose it is the fact that the floods are natural to them.When we get such floods in the UK it is as if it is the end of the world

Excellent reportage, Bertrand. Oui, c'est une coincidence extraordinaire - tut les deux dans les cyclos aujourd'hui. Ca me fait plaisir.
J'aime beaucoup ce cadrage en diagonale, parfait "timing" et dans des circonstances pas faciles.

here it has been raining for three days now, so feel I quite sympathetic with this shot! :-)
Very beautiful composition of a daily life scene although quite drammatic, very colourful and dynamic, too ... great shot!

Another wonderful capture of the monsoon. I like to see the passangers in there and a child squished between them. I supposed it is a normal scene of the daily life in Asia, in spite of all this water. Good contrasts and lighting.

Un sujet à méditer pour les éternels râleurs qui ne connaissent pas leur bonheur.
La composition est très bien agencée.

Hi Bertrand. It was hard to beat your enchanting shot of the little girl that you posted yesterday, but this is nevertheless a good daily life shot, well framed with good DOF and sharpness. I am always amazed at how life goes on in the monsoon months in these countries - the two men in their nicely ironed shirts are quite relaxed and look like the floodwaters don't bother them one bit. Is that a small child tucked between the two men? Cheers . . . David

Quelle flotte.
Et dire qu'ici on ose se plaindre pour trois gouttes d'eau.
Je ne crois pas que ce cycliste soit obèse un jour avec ce travail épuissant.
Tu as su bien capté ce moment quotidien de cette région du globe.
Bon cadrage
Et on distingue bien l'expreeion de ces gens qui en ont vu d'autre.

What a superb capture! I love the dynamics of this shot and the sloshing water as the cycles move along. The clarity and expressions on the various faces are outstanding. Quand on se plaint des conditions de travail dans notre pas et qu'on bloque les transports, on devrait s'inspire pour ne pas le faire des conditions de travail de se brave homme qui transporte ces gens dans les pires conditions....
La photo montre bien les conditions mais surtout le cyclo et son corps qui tire sur les bras et pousse sur les jambes.
Excellente qualité d'image aussi.

This shot really reminds me of my younger days when these tricycles were popular. Unfortunately we have lost many of these, where people opted for the car.
I particularly like the repetition of the wheels in this shot as it emphasized that forward movement. The composition is great and so are the clarity and colours. Well done and very well seen!! Have a nice day ahead.
