Photographer’s Note
Less known russian village Sviyazhsk occupying the small island amid Volga river was found on 1551 as a support base of russian army during the campaign against Kazan khanate. Later it was converted to provincial town with two monasteries. Here on the picture is one of them - the monastery of the Assumption of the Virdgin. Right figure is Assumption cathedral (build on 1560, right figure) and the left one is monastery's belltower. Hope you enjoy that.

The composition and colours are great and the buildings look really interesting, however there is a lot of contrast that does let it down for me

Hello Denis
Thanks for sharing this amazing image of the monastry & cathedral. The dark sky with the white buildings form an amazing atmosphere. A bit too much contrast I feel though

This is a beautiful photo, Denis. I like the stark whiteness of the church walls against the dark threatening sky. A moody and evocative image. Great shot.

Very Beautyful effect, but especially left tower looks a little bit unnatural.
But the colours are great !!!

Hello!
Lovely photo. The dark clouds in the background are an amazing contrast to the white monasteries. Couldn't ask for a better day to take this photo!

Great pick, but too much of contrast or sharpness (for my taste anyway), feels like light too hard

What I enjoyed the most in this photo is the spectrum of colors: Dark blue sky, white buildings and the vibrant green plants.
Thanks,

For me, I love contrast. I think it really depends on the statement you are trying to make with a photo. A lot of people point and shoot, some point and think, and others add add expression after the fact. It is said that Ansel Adams genius was in the darkroom, not at the camera.
If you are trying to create a warm fuzzy feeling, contrast is bad. But here it works for me. Not just as a photo; which is most of what we critque but as a statment of the political turmoil we have seen over the last 100 years or so. It amazes me that through all of the communism, stalinism, etc these expressions of individual belief have survived and may now be revered openly.
On the otherhand, it saddens me to think of the destruction of the buddahs in Afganistan by the Taliban. (IMHO)
