Photographer’s Note

One of the many horses free to roam on Port Meadow near Oxford.
The temperature was quite cold and the horses still have their winter coats which is fortunate as this one has ice hanging off of him.
The frost was a delight to walk on crunching underfoot.

This is a very impressive shot of this horse on frost. I love the way the background disappears in the mist. I can almost feel the cold.

Waah! That looks cold. Took me years of living in Moscow to realise there's nothing so chilling as an English freezing fog... Nice place though, Port Meadow; used to like being there.

Nice and original. The horizon blending with the ground make a very good background for this winter picture.

Hi Peter

Here it is one of the pictures of horses you told me about.
I like the composition…and the horse is just beautiful.
I only think that the background is a little bit white and the grass too.
I know that is because of the weather in that day.
So I decided to make a workshop for you..and I hope you like it.

Hello Peter.. It always amazes me about some animals tolerance for cold. In my own travels to Montana, I've witnessed frosted animals apparently happily muching away at frost incrusted grasses too. You capture here is quite good and graphically expresses the feeling here; I can almost smell the manure:)

How many real horses in the meadow we've seen on these sites? Just simple, real bloody horse on the bloody meadow? We all are trying to be such great artists (as a matter of fact - WE ARE!), and yet your ol' good horse brought us back to earth. Hey..THIS IS A HORSE !
There is even some frost on his fur.
