Photographer’s Note
Had to sit down and angle the camera up to get the whole minar in the photo. Wazir Khan Mosque was built in 1634 by Sheikh Ilmuddin Ansari. The mosque is located about a furlong from the Delhi gate and off the Kashmiri bazaar. Sheikh Ilmuddin Ansari, a native of Jhang in Chiniot district, was a hakim (physician) by profession, who gradually rose to the position of wazir (governor) in the reign of Shah Jahan and received the title of Wazir Khan. He was also appointed the viceroy of Punjab for seven years from 1632 to 1639.
Wazir Khan Mosque is made of brick. It is known for its beautiful glazed mosaics of Mughal designs on a clear yellow background and fresco paintings. The Persian-Mughal decoration is visible in the geometric forms, the formality of the floral design and the calligraphy. The work was supervised by leading Persian artists who had come to India on the orders of Shah Jahan. Its eastern gateway is an elaborate forecourt which opens on to a square or chowk. One of its most attractive features is the colorful floral and calligraphic designs in glazed tile mosaic work, said to be introduced from Thatta during the 16th century. It is in the decorated panels of this mosque that the cypress as a motif on enameled mosaic work appears for the first time. The improved octagonal minarets, among the earliest of this type in Mughal architecture, are another distinctive feature of the mosque. The square outside the mosque probably once formed an important part of the plan of the old city of Lahore. The mosque was so located in the centre of the city that all the major routes and bazaars were linked with it at right angles.
The whole mosque is richly decorated with frescos, brick imitation, and inscriptions. Seen here is the northeastern minar and part of the central gateway which itself is capped by a large dome and mini-minarets.

Nice shot. Was it deliberately done in B/W? I would've loved to see it in its natural colors. Just a thought.
The notes were terrific. Thanks for being so informative.

Big, imposing but beautiful architecture. The b&w is well suited. I think the light in some of you other photos is not the best, but here, you have overcome the problem by producing a fine b&w. It does however give the Mosque a rather cold ambiance, but I think it is good for the general atmosphere of the photo. We all know that Mosques are not cold and are not what Bush and his administration try to make us think they are ;). But let's not get too deep into politics...
Thanks for sharing
Cheers

Hi Raza. I love this view of the Wazir Khan majid. I've photographed there on many occasions and know that a mosque this size is difficult to photograph. However, with the help of the clouds & shadows you've managed to capture some of the essence of the place. Black & white was an excellent choice on this occasion. Well done!

Hi Raza
Good choice in Black & White here. The details have come off well. I may be a bit bothered about the contrast of the shot...but nevertheless a good effort

Angshu
