Photographer’s Note
this is a photo of some lilly pads on a pond in the Nakan Castle Folk Villiage, 22 km away from Suncheon. this folk village is considered to be a castle because it is surrounded by a wall first built in 1397 from sand in defense of Japanese invasion and then 300 years later the wall was finally built from stone.
people still live in thatched roof houses in this folk village, given a government subsidy to do so, so that tourists can see, first hand, what daily life was like in korea before industrialization.
