Photographer’s Note

I finally found some time to make some picture of my new daily environment in the Netherlands. I've promised one day I would post some windmills and tulipe pictures, but for this time, my choice has been to post this view of the old city of the Hague (Hofvijver).
It shows at the foreground the old Government building with theyr typical architecture, and at the background, the tops of three modern ministeries that make the city silhouette very easy to recognize while arriving at the neighborhood.
The applied post-treatment was a simple selective desaturation and sepia convert, while keeping the original color of the orange and white lights (probably designed for the Queen's Day).

J'ai finalement trouve un peu de temps pour faire quelques images de mon nouvel environnement quotidien. Je vous avais promis des moulins et des tulipes, mais pour cette fois, j'ai choisi de vous proposer cete photos du vieux centre de La Haye (Hofvijver). J'ai apprecie le contraste architectural entre les vieux bati,ents du gouvernement, au 1er plan, et les trois modernes buildings ministeriels, dans le fond 5qui rendent a silhouette de la ville tres facile a reconnaître même de loin).
Le post-traitement apporte a juste consiste en une desaturation selective et une conversion en sepia, sans toucher aux couleurs des lampes oranges et banches probablement posees la en vue de la fete de la Reine...

Superbe pov. et aussi super traitement en n&b et couleurs. Je ne savais qu'il était possible de faire cela. Peux-tu me dire avec quel logiciel tu fais cela ?

Bonsoir mon ami Loïc,
Pas de tulipes, ni de moulins à vent ! Ce n'est pas grave, l'on se rattrape sur cet ensemble architectural où se marient avec bonheur le moderne et l'ancien .
Excellente idée, cette désaturation pour ne laisser que quelques ampoules de couleur.
Le cadrage avec ces guirlandes au premier plan qui dynamise la composition.
Idée très originale très bien réalisée.

Loïc, le post-traitement est une réussite. L'orange devient la seule couleur et attire ainsi le regard.

beaucoup de contrastes dans ta photo, architecture d'abord avec un effort pour intégrer ces buildings avec l'architecture traditionnelle et puis avec ton PP, l'idée est osée. Pourquoi pas !

Interesting treatment. The sepia tone you used is unusual; almost green. There is a good mix of old/new architecture. leaving the lights their original colours really makes them stand out.

Hi Loic - the architectural contrast is interesting enough, and the selective desaturation adds a unique appeal. I'm glad the high rises have a distinctive style, and not just ugly glass boxes.

Intéressante compo, mais le sépia tire un peu sur le jaune.
Excuse moi c'est ma sensibilité aux couleurs qui parle parce que j'ai travaillé jadis en imprimerie et c'est là que j'ai appris les bases de la photo ainsi que le développement couleur; j'effectuais des tirages à partir de diapos et j'avais pas intéret à faire d'erreurs car ça coûtait de l'argent.
Ceci m'a beaucoup aidé en numérique pour travailler mes images en PP.
Donc tu peux faire du sépia en mixant du jaune et du rouge et en désaturant le tout.
J'ai effectué un WS mais au détriment des ampoules.

The desaturation worked very nicely with the colored bulbs for contrast. A nice contrast was achieved also with the new and old architectural buildings. As a whole the composition and oint of view is very wel done.

Hi Loic,
This selective desaturation looks really great. You've retained just enough colour to lift the image while giving sense of the history with your use of sepia tones. The composition is pleasantly balanced, image quality is excellent, and your light control, particularly with the strong variation within the image, is good. My only comment is that the whole image appears to be very slightly rotated to the left but it's only minor. Apart from that, this posting is impossible to fault.
