Photographer’s Note
Continuing my postings on the famous Qutub Minar.I would like to show the entrances and the surroundings before I actually post the minar (Tower).
Info:
Numerous inscriptions in Arabic and Nagari characters in different places of the Minar reveal the history of Qutub. According to the inscriptions on its surface it was repaired by Firoz Shah Tughlaq (AD 1351-88) and Sikandar Lodi (AD 1489-1517).
The first of the series can be found here. This is a similar entrance like the previous one but with a destroyed arch and dome.
Information is divided among pictures and all of them will be compiled at the Minar's posting . Let me know if this is a wrong idea to give info in parts. I thought, as a series this would work well.
The bright mid day sun didnt give any advantage to photographers.I had to do a lot of PP on this.I still don't know if this looks good but its way better than the original.
I first cropped some unwanted areas on all sides of the pic.Burnt the whole place up :) and got some details and contrast.Cloned shades on the ground touched up some of the sky , then manually increased the reds with the color balance adjustment. The pic appears to be slightly tilted to the right.I discovered that with reference to the ground, the comopsition is actually parallel.I tried to tilt the pic by 2 deg* but it only made the ground slant and took of the last available good looks away :)
A complete experiment IMO.Let me know what you think.
Thanks for your patience .Cheers.

vikram,
great captuer of the entrance here. good dof and color gives life to this otherwise mundane shot. human elements were positioned aptly to scale the structure here. great informative note.

Hi Vikram,
Beautiful one. The flat light did not spoil your composition. Your notes are descriptive and makes the viewer apprecitate the picture better. Thanks for sharing

Hi vikram
A well made presentation of this impressive ruins. Nice pp with strong colours and included details. If you used your distortion tools and drag a bit left at the top you had probably solved the little 'problem'.

Hi Vikram
Impressive PP work here..I think using the distortion tool could probably have solved the little 'problem'. But I like the perspective here..very impressive. I would grumble about the lack of contrast, but that would be nitpicking..

Hi Vikram
Nicely framed, nice colours which seem to radiate the heat. Good inclusion of human interest for the purposes of scale. Nice work and thanks for sharing.
Best wishes

Salut Vikram!!
Long time no see, like you’ve mentionned... I’m back at your gallery with your two very interesting photos of Qutub Minar, a site that I didn’t had the chance to visit.
The first one shows a lot of rich architectural details and carving, so typical of indian craftmanship and distinctive patterns. I think you manage the light perfectly, and your hard work on Photoshop doesn’t show at all; it seems all natural!
By complementing with this second image, you give us the opportunity to evaluate how much this site is important and vast. I think it would be a good idea to explain what was the purpose of this structure on your next post. Was it more than a funeral monument? You’ve stimulate my curiosity and I will have a look in my books and guides about India.
Have a great weekend Vikram!
André
(by the way, what does the image that stand instead of your photo in your introduction means? Are you a devil in disguise?... Mmmmh! I don’t think so.

Hi Vikram,
Impressive structures, even more considering them together with the poeple you wisely included for scale, the arch on the left is beautiful though it looks so precarious I wonder how much time is left to enjoy it... Nice photo, you may post the minaret now ;-)
Have a nice day,

Hi Vikram,
Good framing of the destroyed entrance.
Strong texture coupled with nice red colour. People add to the feeling of scale of this beautiful place.
take care, Aleks

Hi Vikram
Thanks to your note I'm not going to embarrass myself with a remark about rotation.
A great capture of a fascinating relic! Considering the strong light, I think this came out extremely well.

Hi Vikram.
Interesting and useful picture, but I think that I miss something. The problem is that I don't know what, but I think so.
Anyway, an interesting work.
Regards.
