Photographer’s Note
Sometimes I tend to forget that I am a journalist and I upload only "pleasant" pictures although life all around the planet has its "bad" moments and dificulties. I decided to upload this one (a rather "documentary" and certainly not "pleasant" photo) , because I think it serves the purposes of Treakearth, and it helps us learn something about the world.
All over Delhi, both New and Old, (and other big Indian cities) you can see hundreds of thousands of people, who don't have a home, and wash themselves whereever they can, who go to the "toilet" in the sidewalk right beside Okla Market (the main vegetable market of Delhi) or sleep in the parks or even very narrow pavements. This particular one was taken in Chandi Chowk, Old Delhi. It takes only an absent minded or careless driver to wake up with an arm less.

As a professional journalist, you make a great impression by projecting reality without passing judgment on it.
As a human being, you project concern for people like these sleeping at the edge of an "abyss".
I respect you for both, Hercules.
Namaste to you!

Iassou!
This picture depicts very well the dicrepancy between the poor(majority)lying on the side walk or anyway having very little money... and the middle class indians many millions but still a minority going around in 4X4 almost on these guys limbs.... the same happens with train tracks where many people get crushed to death every year!! incredible for a westerner if he knows little about India... You ve done a journalistic shot here and i dont even look for colors or POV! that is hard facts at their rawest
You ve shown to TE another face of India.
Regards
Laurent

Kalispera Hercules.

Hi Hercules,
This is a superb reportage shot. There are so many elements that work for me:
The shot looks 'grabbed', not carefully composed - this creates a moment in time;
The low angle puts the viewer in the position of the homeless person;
The POV with the truck approaching the viewer creates the tension required to convey the potential impending 'accident':
The driver's elbow resting on the open window shows his carefree attitude to the issue.
The more I look at this shot, the more I realise it is a superb snapshot of the harsh realities of some people's lives.
Thanks for this
Craig
