Photographer’s Note

alcohol ... the cause of, and solution to, most of life's problems!! haha!

most people drink it and we all have our favourites.

in korea, alcohol consumption is an art form. bars have themes and shows and televisions and all kinds of weird and wonderful gimmicks to attract customers.

one such bar is a franchise called "texas bar". as you guessed, it's a texan style bar with the cliched wagon wheels, saddles and spurs around the place. however they've also got a massive range of drinks from around the world ... no less than 50 different beers.

this photo was taken in the texas bar where i watched the world cup. the top of the bar is decorated with bottles of different beers and spirits. it's lit from beneath for effect.

sadly, it wasn't very bright and without a stable tripod it was difficult to keep the shot from being too dark or too blurry.

but i like the colours and the repetition. if you're lucky, you might also see your favourite drink! ;)

excellent POV and composition, great focus and light balance.

my favorite 2 drinks:
Vodka Martini
Negroni Sbagliato

but normally i prefer wines.

The backlight gives the image a celestial/spiritual feeling. The consistent shapes of bottles creates a very appealing mass and pattern at the same time. Well seen and done (and drunk)

A very colourful image, the bottle make for an unusal pattern of colours (along with the lighting effect).

I can see some things that i like here, Becks, Erdinger, Leffe & Guinness (even if it is that awful 'drink from the bottle' variety). No sign of VB though (a pity....).

Mine's a pint! ;)

Very nice photo with great colors. At first I thought it was a building with windows everywhere where curtains would have been of many different colors : let's talk about the thumbnail's limits :)

Very colorful (yep, ever said) and nice contrasts in the whole picture. You talked about a maybe too dark picture but I like it and think it fits the very luminous parts, giving a perfect balance.

Cool shot! You note is great as well. Te Bars here in Korea seem to every gimmick going, but I must admit down here in Ulsan... they all seem the same. Jinju was right, there are some over-exposed parts but over all it is a really nice shot. The repetition and the colours make this a woderful shot! Good work

Hi David,

what I like are the colors and the tight, claustroph9obic composition. There are some overesposed parts here, which were probably impossible to avoid. Overall the photo does make a great impact particularly because of the great repetition of bottles.

Oh, got an e-mail from ChrisJ. He is in Paju, north of Seoul, close to the DMZ. Hes finally settled in so I proposed to him that we meet up. Will have to wait for a reply.

Nice idea, colours and framing. Indeed I saw some of my favourite beers, but there's some kind of redundance in the choice. But who can complain for having too many Löwenbräu, Paulaner or Erdinger in front of them? ;o)

Great colours and the variation looks enormous. I wonder how the bartenders manage to find the right bottles in this "chaos". I would not mind the slight blur in this image at all. I also find it interesting to see that they even offer Austrian beer at this Texas bar...
