With the reflecting light off the sea and the incoming weather front from the north kapiti Island seems to be hovering on the horizon. Taken from Pukerua Bay.
Kapiti Island was originally named Entry Island on February 7th 1770 by Captain James Cook when he passed by on his way to Cook Strait between NZ's 2 main islands |

Yes, indeed it does seem to be floating just above the surface! You have certainly timed this image well to capture that gap of sunlight to give this effect. There is no great variation in colours in this photo, but you have made up for this by including many shades and patterns. A well caught, moody photo. Well done.
