Photographer’s Note

The low afternoon sun gave me a chance to get a few good pictures of our traditional red paint that I have described here: old picture,

This wall is also unique, it is on a building that dates back to the 15´th century and probably is our oldest preserved wooden house. It is a manor situated on a lovely little peninsula in the lake where I have taken many of my ice pictures. It is a museum since 1758 making it one of the oldest museums in Sweden. The reason for making it into a museum is that it is closely bound to are national legends. In 1520 our then future king Gustav Eriksson Wasa is said to have stayed here for a few days as a refugee from the Danish army who was occupying Sweden. Later he tried to reach Norway but some guys from Mora managed to catch up with him after a long pursuit on skies and told him that they would support him. Today the historians say that the story of Gustav Wasa´s travels in Dalarna is a myth that was used to build the national pride of the Swedes, and it still is, they still teach it in the schools.

That ski run was the first "Wasaloppet" a 90 km endurance test on cross country skies that is a major event every year with more than ten thousand skiers. It is both a fine price for the elit guy who wins and a challenge to many men and women who just ski for exercise.
