Photographer’s Note

Mercat de Santa Caterina

When I think about Barcelona, I always automatically think about Gaudi. On the first sight, this impressive structure has nothing to do with Gaudi, but the curious photographer eye will always find some similarity.

Just within 3 blocks from the Barcelona’s medieval Cathedral, this is the home of Mercat de Santa Caterina (St.Catherine’s market), one of city’s best fresh food markets, designed by architects Enric Miralles and Benedetta Tagliabue.

It is covered with a colorful, eye-catching, wave-like roof; looks like a magic carpet and made of 325,000 ceramic tiles from Seville, still reminded me the colors, style, tradition and techniques of Gaudi and Miro.

Barcelona… it is always a feast for the eyes…
