Photographer’s Note
Mercat de Santa Caterina
When I think about Barcelona, I always automatically think about Gaudi. On the first sight, this impressive structure has nothing to do with Gaudi, but the curious photographer eye will always find some similarity.
Just within 3 blocks from the Barcelona’s medieval Cathedral, this is the home of Mercat de Santa Caterina (St.Catherine’s market), one of city’s best fresh food markets, designed by architects Enric Miralles and Benedetta Tagliabue.
It is covered with a colorful, eye-catching, wave-like roof; looks like a magic carpet and made of 325,000 ceramic tiles from Seville, still reminded me the colors, style, tradition and techniques of Gaudi and Miro.
Barcelona… it is always a feast for the eyes…

Fantastic capture Alana, those clouds have me spellbound. They look like they are at different levels high and so low you could almost touch them. Great light on this scene below. Very unusual, well done.

it almost doesn't look real. the colours of the sky and the cloud formation form such a unique contrast that really makes this shot work. a fine composition. well done.

Hi Alana
Splendid shot thanks to the heavy saturation bringing out the colours in the roof and the highly dramatic sky. Little details such as the plants, 2 mopeds and posts add to the dynamics.
Bien vu.

Hi Alana.
I can see where you would think of Gaudi--the colors and shapes are similar and beautiful! Great POV and sharpness. The ws looks nice too. I like the effect in the sky--is that from the circular polarizer?
Take care.

Hi Alana
Your PP work is quite amazing. I think you should give a brief explanation of what PP techniques you used so we can have an idea. The sky looks awesome here and the effect looks surreal. Nice pov as the facade of the shops has good depth. A impressive and sharp picture with plenty details to admire. Well done.

Hi Alana,
I can't believe what I am seeing. Mavellous colours, they are dancing to your tunes, great contrast.
One of the most beautiful and colourful composition on TE.
The curved roof tops and the fabulous sky; I admire your POV.
Best Regards,
Rajeev

Hello Alana
Your title is very apt..Feast for the eye is your photo ;-)
Amazing how the effects of the sky highlights the coloured wavy roofs. It's the visual appeal which is important & your work on the sky does just that & more. Mesmerising!

Angshu

The sky is absolutely captivating. It took a while before I even looked at buildings.
The way the colours of the roof contrast the blue and white of the sky is very nice. Thank you!

Alana, I am really AMAZED by your photos -- they are so intersting, so unique, so unrealistic, first of all, thanks to the sky, which is always stands out.. How did you do that - any postprocessing in PS?
