Last Light on Devil's Castle Photo

Photographer’s Note

Location: Albion Basin near the town of Alta, Utah. The illuminated mountain is the Devil's Castle as seen from the Cecret Lake trail.

About the Photo: I took this photo the same day as this photo, less than an hour apart. Here the last light of day makes the mountain look almost red, while the other photo was taken while a cloud cast a shadow over the mountain. Laying about 15 meters behind me was a very large bull moose. This lush basin has ideal habitat for moose.

Good timing, Ryan, to catch these nice warm colours on the mountain. I like the subtle use of the ND Grad filter which has enabled you to keep lots of colour in the sky, but I might have been tempted to try and lift the foreground a little using the shadow/highlights tool in PP. Cheers . . . David

I am missing some clarity on the bottom layer but I understand your choice on focusing the viewer on the upper part. Love the warm light in the earthy colored mountain. Great sky too. Composition? Perfect as always!

You are a master in composing...the way I like it. Just awsome landscape here...must go to Utah.

The warm colours in the mountain are wonderfull and the flowers in the foreground are perfect.

Just liked to see the result of a 0.6 Grad or even a 0.9, but that's me beeing picky.
