Koelewei Mill J II Photo

Photographer’s Note

During a stroll around Bruges saw I this mill, it was a special day, the miller was present, you can see the miller above in the door.
Again a place where alone tourist come with a bike, this mill about a twenty minutes of the centre of the city.
Along the canal of Bruges, you can see four mills, this is number three his name "Koelewei molen" .
This is not the place original of these mill, come out of West-Flanders, have to around 1965 completely restored and again he can grind.

This picture I have cropped to a better composition, the colours his original.

Joli moulin,peut-être aurait-il été préférable de cadrer un peu plus à gauche pour avoir l'aile inférieure gauche en entier.Belles couleurs et bonne netteté.

I like this composition, where the windmill is accurately placed in the frame!
Wonderful saturated colours of summer, fine details to go with them...
The touch of reddish tint on the wings does a lot of good for the overall impression!

Hi John!
I like Belgium’s windmills; it's a great object for photographing. In Poland we have wooden mills called "kozlak", unfortunately often in very bad condition :( Good composition and great colors.

Bonjour John,
il me semble avoir déjà vu ce moulin sur TE.
Quoi qu'il en soit, il est présenté ici avec de superbes couleurs dans un cadrage bien réfléchi et dans des lumières bien dosées.

Ik mis een stukje wiek en hij is er nauw gesneden, neemt niet weg dat hij toch wel mooi is en U weey, molens doen het goed op de wereld. Mooie compositie uitstekende kwaliteit, goed werk.

Ce n'est pas courant de voir un moulin en présence d'un meunier.
Ce moulin semble nous accueillir ! La reconstitution est parfaite.

Een mooie foto van deze molen, genomen vanuit een goede POV! Leuk dat de molenaar er ook op staat. Die bladeren aan de rand van de foto zijn ook mooi extraatje. De kleuren en het licht zijn erg prettig. Prima werk!

Hi John,
This mill trimmed in a blue and wonderfully clean sky forms a great composition. I like the POV from down, the small knoll on which the mill rises, its details, the presence of the miller, and the branches that hang on the image.
The illumination is perfect and the excellent colors.
It is a good photo.

Zeer krachtig beeld John, POV, kleuren, scherpte pico bello, je hebt je workflow nu volledig onder de knie, geen opmerkingen meer over iso en focus, waarschijnlijk beseft men nu dat de 5D een hele andere camera is.
Goed zo, prachtige lucht, top qualiteit hier ! en zeggen dat je dit nu werkelijk groot kunt afdrukken ook ....

Tight framing at 16 mm! You are close to the subject.
Rich colors without pola, the upper leaves are in my view disturbing, should be more or not at all.

Beste John, een mooi kleurenpalet maar, om heel eerlijk te zijn, toch had ik hier iets meer omheen gelopen, de molen (een practige trouwens) heeft weinig ruimte om zich heen en het stukje boom bovenin had er niet bij gehoeven......

Your POV from low down works really well, magnifying the effect of the windmill against the wonderful blue sky. The lines of red on the blades of the windmill has a good effect. Perfect placement of the mill in the frame. Excellent photograph

Aother good capture of this mill on the hilltop. The tight crop works good. Interesting saturation here, very crisp and clear. Guess the pov is just 'natural' with that placement of the fine mill

Magnificent shot of a beautiful mill, so proud upthere, taking care of everything around it. When I went to Bruges, many years ago, I rent a bike for the day, but I never found this beauty. I love the POV from downhere and the colors and sharpness are amazing. Superb work!

Hi John,

Looking at this and some of your last posts, I see that you are enjoying the 16mm on a FF sensor (I expect to be going your way very soon!).

I like very much the composition and the very natural feeling of the image, it is almost as if I was there. Exposure and sharpness are, as usual, superb.

Curieux, ce meunier en train de lire, John !
La photo est bien composée et on peut voir beaucoup de détails du moulin. Les couleurs sont un peu forcées mais c'est au bénéfice du cliché.
Heureusement qu'il existe tout un mouvement pour sauvegarder ces moulins, ils sont si bien dans le paysage.

Dag John. Weer één van mijn vriendjes tegengekomen, zie ik ;-). Je had echt wel geluk dat je de molenaar aantrof, want over het algemeen is het vooral de Sint-Janshuysmolen die open is. Goeie foto, zoals we gewoon zijn.

Tijdens onze bezoek aan Brugge hebben wij voor het eerst kennis gemaakt met deze soort molens. Ook grappig om te zien dat ze altijd op zelfgebouwde heuvels staan om de wind beter op te vangen. Ik blijf ze prachtig vinden en je hebt het mooi vastgelegd.
