Photographer’s Note
Looks can be deceiving. What I had always considered to be a nuclear power plant, located just beside the A4 Autobahn near Aachen, Germany, I discovered was a coal-burning power plant. Though cooling towers such as these are associated with nuclear power (see, e.g., Springfield's plant on "The Simpsons"), they are for cooling water for re-use in power generation, regardless of the heat source.
Although I typically shoot near-infrared with a monochrome photo in mind, I wanted something a little more otherworldly here, so I retained the RGB information here and worked with the different color channels to get this result. I think the sepia sky and the slightly colorful trees make for a more interesting result, given the controversy normally associated with nuclear power (or what I thought was nuclear power at the time).
