Barbican Boats Photo

Photographer’s Note

After a heavy downpour the sun came out and everything looked clean and bright. This is Plymouth Barbican, a lovely place to watch the world go by. I am always amazed how small these fishing boats are when one gets up close; the men who go out in them are very brave I think.

Nice shot, the colors on the boats are really intense. But maybe the composition could say a bit more.

Hi Jean,
I do have a soft spot for water reflections...and this image is like looking through a mirror. I'm glad that you didn't crop out the real boats because they add a balance that may otherwise have been lacking without them. The colours are also very good and clear.

Hi there,

i guess its not too late to welcome you to TE. I am pretty new too.

Your composition on your subject here is good. You manage to capture the whole boat replections on the water, and the boat's colours are also vibrant. I've never been to Plymouth, but my friend studied there. Yes, she told me that Plymouth is a beautiful place with beautiful people.

The only thing that a little distracting is the orange rope. it's like cutting the photo. Imagine your photo without it.. :D

Jean, ces barques très colorées avec leurs reflets font un excellent cliché. Dommage que la partie supérieure comporte tant de détails, il me semble que ça nuit un peu pour l'unité du sujet. Il reste une excellente photo.

I love the colors, and the water is so smooth and blue. I love the shade of yellow - I think it's a color you don't see too much in photos.

Great shot Jean, this picture is doing swimmingly isn't it. I like the colour contrasts very much in this one.
The workshop is ok, but it chops the blue boats number off which is a nice feature. Well done

My opinion is that you did right to crop the 3rd boat in your workshop post but I wonder if a vertically taken shot would have done the same and included the upperworks of the boats. Nit-picking really because this shot has such superb colour and sharpness, and it may well be that the BG white water would have spoiled the result. An excellent image either way.

I love these shots of beautiful, brightly coloured boats with great reflections tied up alongside. It's a lovely composition, great light and colours and your pov is excellent. I agree with you whole heartedly about the men that go out in these boats, they are incredibly brave and I have to say....I wouldn't do what they do! A very fine capture Jean, well done.

Beautifull colors for these small boats and excleent light and reflexions. I have have expected this picture to have been taken in a Mediterranean harbour than in England, but this is probalby a consequence of traditional association between English weather and rain...

Absolutely brilliant!!
Perhaps exposure could have been set 1 stop lower... but still a lovely picture.
The reflections in the water are a real delight to look at :)
