Photographer’s Note
After looking at the display of my earlier shots I wanted to have motion in the picture. I did 2 test shots without a car to see what is happening with that camera setting. Then I did my first try ever for a motion shot (luckily I had read some about that here in TE earlier). I'm pretty satisfied with the result especially the wheels but I wonder why one part of the car is sharp without motion and the rest not, but this is just a technical question. I was lucky btw as this also was the last car to pass by as that show race had to end early.
Here you see Frentzen's car giving some lucky newspaper winner a taxi ride on the Ballindamm. Almost all of the Ballindamm buildings are in that old style grey. The Hapag Lloyd ship line has their main worldoffice there. If you ever go to Hamburg make sure to visit the Ciu's bar wich is also at Ballindamm. A very stylish bar with the best view on the inner Alster river and yum yum drinks :)
Please also look at the other pictures of the mini-series which will finish tomorrow: #1, #2, #3, #4, #5, #7
Postprocessing in PS6: Minor cropping top and bottom, autolevels and unsharp mask.

Much better Jan. Real motion. Good stuff. I like how the drivers helmet is still clear, concentrating.

Well taken!
i wished there was more space azt the tail of the car, but heck, this is one great shot!

great Jan ;)
i like a lot the blurred people on the background. i would even crop the top of the picture till just up their heads.
had you pushed the button one milisecond later, you wouldn´t have the car so well framed in your shot.
thanks for sharing!

You almost had it all in focus, but great effort though, I like the car, well done a real sense of movement here
Well done

Great result you got here. The car is not completely sharp, giving the image a sense of very high speed. The blurred people helps a lot also. Most adds on the car are not readable but Stern —even more feeling of movement. Very good.

Very nice use of motion blur! Wrooooooom!!! is right in this shot! The blur gives action everywhere. The people moving blurred in excited action at watching the car. The building as the car zooms by. And the car itself which has an added energy. As you say part is fairly sharp and I don't know why it is but I like it. It gives a lot of focus to the car and gives it motion forward but also toward me the viewer. It seems to be coming out this way to the side like the sheer energy of the car is captured and an explosion of that energy is being felt from the car. Very nicely done! Great job!

It does convey a lot of motion, Jan. Even though most of the scene is blurred, it is clearly understandable what we are looking at. I also like how there is a bit of space in the direction where the car is going, so your timing was pretty much perfect. Well done.

Great shot Jan,
The amount of blur is just right and cirtainly conveys movement whilst keeping the driver clear and sharp. The angle of the line of spectators and the line in the facade of the buiding creates a very dynamic shot.

You're on the right track! The key to sharpness in this type of shot is perfect synchronicity. The speed of the car & the speed of your camera panning have to match very closely & in parallel.
This is really good for a 1st attempt. Another way to get a great shot is from the back of another racing car travelling at the same speed.

This one is very well taken. Motion blur gives here a superb result. Composition is also very dynamic with a car in diagonal and very close. The whole picture seems to start from the driver's helmet which is very well spotted by it's sharpness. A great racing shot.
