Photographer’s Note
This is a capture from Tollymore Forest in Newcastle during Autumn.
What I did to create the effect was to greyscale the shot, then simply used a brush to bring the original colour back into the floor of the shot. I think the contrast works well, but I may be wrong;-)

Nice PP work - the colours on the floor are excellent & the contrast between monochrome & colour is good. I'd like to see the original colour shot as a workshop (for comparison).

Nice work here Fiona, the light shows really well, the shadows of the trees are good and the pp work finishes it off nicely.

Hi Fiona,
Beautiful shot! I love the contrast of the black and white trees against the colour of the ground and leaves. I have yet to learn how to do this. Well done and TFS :-)
Cheers Tina

It's an interesting and creative effect, Fiona, but I'm not as sold on it as some other critiquers. Partial desaturation seems more suited to urban scenes, where the subject matter is already mostly manmade. But it's good to experiment, and I'd call this a "semi-success", not a failure by any means. I think this would have been a nice image without desaturation, too. Regards, Ken.

Hi Fiona,
I too am not so sure how I feel about the technique you have tried here.
The rich colours and contrasting shadows and sunlight in the coloured portion are so vivid and crisp that I wish the whole photograph were in colour.
To me, the contrast makes the upper, B&W treed portion seem cold and menancing.
You used the technique quite well, but I find the contrast does not make me enjoy the scene more.
Thanks for the photo... it's given me some things to think about.
Erin
