Photographer’s Note

An early morning scene from Alona Beach in Panglao Island, Bohol. It is a charming resort town and I always include a stop here whenever I visit the Philippines.

The branch to the upper right side of the frame is an African tulip tree, and I have included in the WS a macro shot of the tree blossoms.

Hi Danilo,
There is nothing like photographing landscapes (or seascapes in this case) in the early morning light. You have made the best use of it. The branch on the right is a nice inclusion to fill up the empty space.

"Calme, luxe et volupte" that's the french words that come to my mind when looking at this picture. There are a few of those places where I like to stay as well when travelling, just relaxing a couple of days when not a couple of weeks bewteen more adventurous destinations. great shot.

Beautiful light colouring this fine beach in the early hours!
In many ways this is the best time of day in the Phils, before the heat gets to a Northerner like me...
Lovely composition with pleasant diagonal, good details in the bancas and I suppose it is Cebu in the back!

hi dan,
i have a colleague here who hails from bohol; he always is bragging me about panglao. after seeing this posting i am convinced- it is a must-see paradise for me now (probably next year's balikbayan visit ko).

Hi Danilo,
It's nice to have you back; it doesn't sound like theis was the kind of trip in which there was photography time. However, the early morining light does wonderful things to the beach, ocean and boats. You've managed the contrast between the dark beach and the bright boats well. I also like the framing of the diagonal of the beach, the tree and the boats dancing iin the sunshine.

Your WS is clearly worthy of a primary post. Although I've seen these trees many times, I've never seen such a beautiful blossom up close,; if possible, it's even better than your wonderful PP.

The early light is beautiful and well worth getting up early for. I like how the boats are illuminated and reflected in the water. The macro in the WS is stunning and well worthy of a main post. The details you have given about it are enough for it to qualify for this site.

Early in the morning, this is the best moment of the day for take pictures, and absolutely at the sea, with the strong blue sky, perspective and composition are very well, the white boats are a lovely subject on this blue water, very well done! Thanks for sharing.

The effect of the early morning light, especially on the boats is beautiful. I like the way you've composed the shot in a diagonal & used the branches to fill up the space at the top. Your WS about the blossoms is amazing...I have learnt something new & interesting thanks to your photo.

The morning light has brought out the textures of the beach beautifully; the shadows give definition to every pebble and grain of sand. I think you could have made more of this and given the shot more impact by getting lower down and closer to the sand with a wider angle lens.
Even so, this is a great shot and the colours produced by the early morning light are very appealing.

Hi Danilo. The addition of the tulip tree helps add some interest and helps fill in an empty area nicely. You had a great light in both your main post and macro workshop. I don't see a thing I would change. Merry Christmas Danilo!

Danilo, this one is deservedly popular. The early morning light glinting on the white boats, the rippling reflections, the perspective and the tree top right with its tiny flashes of red, make this an extremely atmospheric shot, inviting one to walk along this beach in the sun. Very well composed and exposed.

Hello Danilo. I took a look at quite a few photos in your gallery and almost commented on Distant Paradise when I found this beauty of yours.
