Gulls over Santa Monica Bay Photo

Photographer’s Note

Last nights attempt to do people photography was abrupted by this flock of gulls descending on the beach. Took a bunch of shots of them instead. I like this one because the frame is crammed with bird silhouettes and because of the diagonal provided by the beach.

One of the peculiar things about LA is that despite the fact that it is a huge urban area nature is always near due to its setting between the pacific ocean, grand deserts and mountain ranges.

I would like to say that :
*The contrast between bottom with top of the pic is great.
*The all colors well captured & all are beautiful.
*The spots of the birds are very strong elements in this shot.Good timing you captured it.
* The lines of horizon & mountain well composed in frame.
I think you creat a semi-dynamic shot,Also ,It`s a poetical shot,too.
I like it.You did great.

A very good and unusual pictures of seagull, I agree with you that the silhouette is working well, I think cropping the bottom a bit can give more "mass" to the shot, other than that - great shot

Lovely. Something is 'zen' in this pic. Wonderful gradation of tones in the sky, very well seen.

This is a lovely shot of Santa Monica Bay and the mountain ridge. First of all I like the color gradient in the sky, from light blue to deep red, and the contrasting silhouette of the mountains. Then I like that the sky is crammed with seagulls. And after a longer look the absolutely crammed beach and the waves rolling in. I also agree on your note about the presence of nature in this wast urban area. Same beach - same birds - very well done!
