Photographer’s Note
A streetmusician playing after the shops have closed on Alexanterinkatu, the business & shopping district, in the centre of Helsinki. He had a very simple trumpet but managed quite catchy christmas tunes with it. Not many people shopping anymore at this late hour and very few stopped by to donate. Quite cold and underpaid. Almost all streetmusicians in Helsinki are nowdays from abroad. Sometimes you can hear really good Russian musicians, but I guess they quite fast try to get to warmer better paying cities... I don't think Finns pay very well nor appreciate it very much. In my oppinion we don't have that kind of streetculture in Finland. This is the first time I have "payed" somebody for being in a shot...
In the background you can see a Nokia flaggship store and the traditonal christmas lights of Alexanterinkatu. When I was a kid the lighting up the christams lights of Alexanterinkatu was an event people went to see. Nowdays they aren't as impressive as there are christmaslights everywhere in the centre of Helsinki around christmas.

Note:
I might redo PP of the image. I seem to have the image slightly rotated. And I'm starting to dislike the frame, it looks like purple fringeing next to the pole on the left. Contrast could also possibly be adjusted, but the original is a bit dark/underexposed and WB is off (very yellow streetlights). I'd probably crop from the top too, the name of the bank doesn't add anything to the image, as I first thought.

Hello Jon
Very emotional shot!
Cold weather, freezing fingers and people passing by..
Though the image lacks contrast a little, it earns appreciation for the content.

You got all the right elements to keep us in the place! Nokia couldn't possibly be clearer and the tram in the BG works really well. I like how you have managed to keep him as isolated from the dark figures that walk on by. The name of the bank is perhaps not necessary as you point out in your note but then again it does give a perspective as to what kind of economic situation and place we are looking at: wealthy people passing by a street-musician (who obviously is not that wealthy). I think the shots works quite well except for the fact that he is a bit unclear and not as sharp. Had you focused on the man we would have still been able to read Nokia loud and clear.
A great contribution nevertheless!
TFS! Julia
