Flower and script Photo

Photographer’s Note

After visiting Hokkaido Shrine in Maruyama Park one late summer day I noticed this bunch of bright indigo coloured flowers. I took a few snaps and then spotted the Japanese script on the base of a statue. Using the script as a background I hope I've captured something a little more original that a straight flower shot and that I've also given a sense of place too.
I'm particularly happy with the exposure here as I think the boldness of the flower contrasts nicely with the dark script. What do you think?

Hi Phil,

This is beautiful! You're right, the flower does contrast nicely with script. One thing I would do is crop the flower even more; I think it might be better if the leaves behind the bloom weren't showing at all. I would also be interested in seeing different angles of this, maybe zoomed out farther to see more flowers nearby, or at least all of this one, stem and all. Maybe some of the others you took are like this. Well done, and TFS,

Stunning, Stunning Photo! The clarity and lighting are fantastic but the perspective is fascinating! I'm impressed that the characters in the background are also rather focused, considering the close focus on the flower. Great Job!

very good shot, the light on the flower is just great and so is the contrast with the unusual background.

I like your composition very much, the contrast of the colours is good and you have captured just the right amount of background blur to make the characters interesting yet still readable. Well done.

you can't beat a shot of natures finest flowers. Lovely contrast against the dark script and the colours are wonderfully bright. A fine capture and well spotted.

A very nice shot here. Great contrast in colours and a good close up of the flower. Maybe blurring the background more would have been effective as well. Either way a good shot.
