Photographer’s Note
Dominica (The Commonwealth of) - The Nature Isle of the Caribbean (not to be mistaken for the Dominican Republic) Reputed to be the only island discovered by Columbus which he would still recognise today. Most of the island is untouched with many of it's dense rainforests still unexplored. The island in undeveloped as opposed to under-developed and in fact was the first country in the world to have an entirely digital telephone network. The island is the foremost proponent of Eco-tourism in the Caribbean and is home to the 2nd largest boiling lake in the world. It has 365 rivers and exports drinking water to many islands.
The islanders are proud of and are intent on protecting the natural beauty of their island from the potential damage that mainstream commercial tourism operations can cause to a landscape. So no high level hotels and no restricted beaches.
This photo was taken on the west side of the island at the very aptly named Sunset Bay, 15 minutes or so after actual sunset. Others had gathered to take photographs of the sky before the sun set. All had left as soon as the sun dipped below the horizon but I waited on as I knew that some of the most spectacular sunset colours come some time after the sun has left the sky. This evening was a case in point.

I want to be here now!
Glad you waited for this 'cause as you say, the colours are wonderful. You could argue that this is a bit cliched as an image, but what the hell? It makes me want to get on a plane and enjoy that scene.

Beautiful, breath-taking, gorgeous.
I love the colours and the soft details in the texture.

Hi Robin
Looking at this shot, and your others, I am not really qualified to comment ( I have a bit to go:) And I don't often comment on sunset shots.
Nevertheless, I really like the colours in this one, and the texture of the sky, down to the detail of the clouds in the distance.
The only thing is i sort of find the top of the shot a bit heavy( if that's the right word?). A bit dark with the palms in it.
Maybe it could be cropped to a square shape?
But, as I said, I don't know much, just personal taste.
Very good.
Cheers

Gorgeous colour in this, with the clouds having some delicate and sensuous curves. I like the use of the tree to give some 3 dimensionality to the shot too. Great work, and a really interesting note as well!

Wonderful photo and very interesting notes... I got to know about an island I had never heard bevore (a rare thing, I must add ;-P ).
I think it would have benefited from a little more exposure as most of the photo is too underexposed for my taste... great great colours though...

Beautiful shot! Composition is solid and a nice silhouette. I like the way the shot moves from darkness at the top to the reflection off the water.
