View of the snaking Rhine from the Lorelei rocks, taken with a 10mm focal length on an extremely windy afternoon, I streched and cropped to eliminate the vignetting from the polariser at the 4 corners, so this is not a true 10mm.
From Wikipedia:
The Loreley (also written as Lorelei) is a rock on the eastern bank of the Rhine near St. Goarshausen, which soars some 120 meters above the water line. It marks the narrowest part of the river between Switzerland and the North Sea. A very strong current and rocks below the waterline have caused many boat accidents there.
Loreley is also the name of one of the beautiful Rhine Maidens who lured navigators of this river to their dooms with their alluring singing, much as the ancient Greek Sirens did.
The name comes from the old German words "lureln" (Rhine dialect for "murmuring") and "ley" (rock). The translation of the name would therefore be: "murmur rock" or "murmuring rock". The heavy currents, and a small waterfall in the area (still visible in the early 19th century) created a murmuring sound, and this combined with the special echo the rock produces which acted as a sort of amplifier, then gave name to the rock itself. The murmuring is hard to hear today due to the urbanization of the area. Other theories include attributing the name to the many accidents, by combining the word "luren" (lurk) with the same "ley" ending, with the translation "lurking rock".

Hallo Tan!
A wonderful view you show us here. It's interesting but the Rhine valley here seems to be much more wider as in reality. The point of view is very interesting because most of the pictures taken here are taken at the Loreley rock, which from your location is a bit more at the left. Your point of view gives the possibility to follow the river with the eyes for some kilometers. Thank you for showing!
Greetings from Germany!

Hi Tan
Beautifully composed 'S-bend' leading us from the left towards the centre and then the back, at the same time showing us great details of the 'surrounding' scenery. Overall I find this of perfect depth. Lighting is good but perhaps some bits a tiny bit dark.
Best wishes

Ha! my last upload was from 5 km from there!:) You had much better weather than I though, and I admire the POV allowing to capture the deep perspective of Rhine and the ship on the left.
Cheers and happy new year

Hi Tan,
I thought immediately to Ein Märchen aus uralten Zeiten the poem of Heinrich Heine that learned me at school of the temptation of the Lorelei.
Good to see this back in this attractive picture.

Well Tan what impresses me about your photos is you always seem to find the best vantage point for taking photos. Either you climb to this spot of someone showed you a hill road up here. Great perspective..
That boat seems awfully long down there. Might be the wide angle 10mm...almost.
Very nice Tan.

Great panoramic shot! The view is spectacular and wide, but so detailed. I like the way the lines of the shore and the road all reinforce each other as they cut across the frame. Well done!

Hi Tank,
Great lesson in depth. I like this perspective, this great sight over the Rhine, and the gradiant in the light, from the little darkness at left to the very well managed light over the whole frame. Very very nice!
Angel.

Hi Tan,
Obviously an appropriate point to benefit from the Captain's PoV (tm) and deliver yet another nice overlooking view where we can note how this narrow point concentrates the communication infrastructures, I love as well the rich greens on the boat that bring extra light to the foreground.
Have a nice sunday,
Jean-Yves

Hi Tan,
Well composed with the turquoise boat affair really adding that extra zing. The eye follows the sinuous curve of the river far into the frame from this ideal perspective. The vignetting from the polarizer seems to be something we 20D people have to bear. Well captured.

Good shot Tan, the viewpoint is excellent as usual, a nice high viewpoint. The title certainly suits the scene, not only does the river snake around through the rocks here, but the the road & railway follow it's course along the bank on the nearside. Great colours too, you're making great use of that 20D.

Hi Tan. What a beautiful sweeping wide-view you have for us here. I could guess that you must have used a wide-angle lens. Using a polarizer on a wide-angle can be tricky because of different levels of polarization on the sky though. Nice work Tan!

Hi Tan
Wonderful high POV yet again..the wide angle shows the landscape in it's full glory. I especially like the S of the river as it curves away to the left & further down to the right. Just wanted to know if the tongue like thin landstrip in the middle..is it a river sandbank or manmade?
Lovely shot & a well chosen caption to the pic!

Great view Tan.
The Rhine looks as always impressive.
I like the cruise liner in the foreground, it looks pretty sleek, is that due to the 10mm focal or did it actual look like that?
Thanks
