Photographer’s Note

“Ice Forming” is the name of this photograph and it was taken today on a walk on the waterfront of St. John’s harbor. The temperature was -13 degrees Celsius, and no wind. The ice was starting to form on the harbor. It was a grand morning for taking photographs and I had to walk. Trying to do both was difficult.
This is the scene from the west end of the harbor facing Cabot Tower which you can see in the far distance.
There was no photo editing only saved for the web.

Nice perspective down the harbour and some good reflections. I like in particular the symmetry provided by the crane and its relfection on the right. I provides something like a frame and some balance to the composition.

Hi Jim - you have captured a lovely scene here, but I'm afraid I enjoy it even more when I scroll my screen and omit that watermark - it's very dominant and distracting.

That aside, the details here are just perfect. Glassier water would be very hard to find and the shades and intensities of blue and white are delightful.

Jim,
Excellent photo with a nice reflection. The colors and lighting are outstanding with great sharpness and DOF. Your POV is great looking down the dock including the crane on the opposite side of the harbor.
